Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 532

I swallowed hard, my throat dry. She did not have all the facts. She did not know about the contract, about the fake marriage, about the whip. If I went along with this, knowing the circumstances behind our marriage, what difference would there be between me and a criminal? I would be a villain in everyone’s eyes, including Sparrow’s.

I would never stoop so low. Never. There were lines a person should not cross, and this was one of them.

Seeing that I was quiet, she leaned forward and touched my hand. “Have you made up your mind?”

I shook my head slowly. “No matter how desperate I am, I will never stoop so low as to drug a man just so he can have sex with me.”

She nodded, her smile not faltering. “No problem. I have come up with two plans to help you. Since you did not like the first one, I am sure you will like the second one.”

“What is the second plan?”

“Be patient.” She picked up her phone and made a call, speaking in low, quick tones I could not quite catch. Then she hung up and gestured for me to continue eating. “Finish your breakfast, child. The plan is on its way.”

I ate slowly, my appetite gone, waiting to see what she was up to. Just as I was pushing my plate away, someone rang the doorbell. The old woman smiled and nodded toward the door.

“Go and get it, Tasha.”

I got up and crossed the room, my heart beating a little faster. I opened the door, eager to see the plan, and found myself face to face with a young woman. Probably mid-twenties. Tall, dark hair, breasts almost the size of Scarlett’s, and she was very beautiful.

She smiled at me, a bright, perfect smile, and immediately pulled me into a hug. “Hi, you must be Tasha. I am so happy to finally meet you.”

Granny patted my shoulder. “You two should spend some time together and get to know each other. I have some things to attend to, so I will leave you to it.”

She walked away, leaving me alone with Lucia in the vast, silent hallway. Lucia linked her arm through mine, her perfume expensive and strong.

“Come on, let us go somewhere more comfortable. My car is outside.”

I followed her out to a sleek black car that looked really expensive. She opened the passenger door for me, and I slid inside, feeling like an imposter. The leather seats were soft and cool against my skin.

As she drove, she asked if we could stop at a coffee shop since she had not had breakfast yet. I said okay, and she pulled into a chic little café with potted plants and fairy lights. We went inside, and she ordered a cup of coffee while I asked for a glass of water. I had already eaten, and my stomach was too knotted for anything else.
