When I heard footsteps approaching, I immediately got to my feet and it turned out to be Sparrow. He acted as though I were invisible but I didn’t let that stop me. I had to look at the bigger picture. So, I swallowed my pride and anger, took on all the blame and apologized to him.

But he was so rude to me, I had to use all the self control in the world to keep myself calm. After he drove away, I realized I had no desire to eat anymore.

'I will just text Scarlett and tell her I couldn’t make it.' I decided. But as I began heading out to get a cab, my thumb already searching for Lucia’s number in my phone, I heard my name being called. And there was surprise in the voice. I turned and saw Scarlett. She walked toward me and smiled.

“I’ve been waiting for you,” she said. “Why aren’t you coming in?”

“I just arrived,” I said. “But I got a call and I was about to head back out.” I looked at her face. “Didn’t you eat?”

Scarlett hesitated, then shook her head. “I was waiting for you so we could eat together.”

I scoffed inwardly and thought, 'she lies so easily. How can I trust a word someone like this says?'

“I’m sorry,” I said. “I thought you would have already eaten, so I already ate.”

Scarlett nodded. “It’s fine.” She gestured toward the house. “Come in, we have other things about your future to talk about.”

“There won’t be any need for that for now,” I said. “On my way back from Granny’s place, I saw a fitness center. I got curious and went in there. I really liked it there and I want to spend the next one year keeping fit.”

“You can keep fit and still pursue other goals,” Scarlett said.

“This is the only thing that interests me for now,” I explained. “I just got a call from the fitness center and I have to go back there to complete my registration.”

Scarlett nodded. “I understand.” Then, she took a step closer. “Can I come with you?”

“No,” I said too quickly. “You’ve always been there by my side. I want to learn to be independent and do things on my own.”

“Are you going to attend?” I asked.

“Yes.”

“Why?” I pressed. “I have to pretend to be Sparrow’s wife in public so I need to go, but why are you going?”

“Sparrow asked me to come along,” Scarlett replied. “The party is strictly by invitation.”

I nodded. “I see. In that case, I'll take the opportunity to shop for the dress I need for the party once I’m done with the fitness center.”

I waved her goodbye after that and left.

I spoke to Lucia on the way and we met up at the fitness center. Lucia helped me register for the seduction class. The first thing I was given was a list of dresses I needed to start wearing. It was a complete wardrobe overhaul.
