Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 614

She answered on the second ring. "Hello?"

"Bridgett."

She paused. "Miss. Seraphine? Is that you?"

"Get your ass to Ford Biosciences right now." My voice shivered with anger. "If you're not here in five minutes, I'll throw your ass in jail and toss the key into the ocean."

"I'll be there quickly."

I ended the call and sat down, and the sadness hit me like a wave, drowning me. My threats had been empty. In reality, I had neither the money nor the ability to make a police case right now. My laboratory was worth millions, with high-quality machines and equipment. But now, I couldn't recognize it anymore.

I was someone on the run, someone who had to stay hidden. How could I open a police case without exposing myself to Emerson's men?

Why? Why was life so hard on me? Why were my things always different? I had to struggle twice as hard as anyone else, and yet things still never went my way. From childhood, I had always fought for the things I wanted and needed, but it wasn't the same for others. Celeste always got things effortlessly. She never fought for anything; things somehow always ended up on her lap.

Why wasn't it so for me? Why was I always unfortunate? Things would look like they were working out for me in the beginning, yet no matter how much effort I put in, everything and everyone would turn against me in the end. It was exhausting. I felt really exhausted.
