Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 615

"How many millions is the value now?"

Bridgett winced. "I'm afraid it's not even anywhere close to a hundred thousand. I pretended to list it out two days ago, and the few people that offered to buy it barely offered more than twenty thousand. Only one person offered two hundred thousand. Of course, I couldn't give a response to anyone. I was merely testing the waters to keep your options open until you returned."

I laughed, and it came out hollow. Almost laughable. I had spent millions on Ford Biosciences. It hadn't even lasted a year, and the highest value was two hundred grand?

But I was pressed for cash.

"Set up an appointment with that buyer." I straightened. "If we can sign immediately, even better. I want to put this chapter behind me completely."

Bridgett nodded and started making calls while I waited. When she finished, she looked up at me.

"The meeting will be in thirty minutes," she said. "The buyer won't be free after that time. She picked a simple coffee shop and said she'd be waiting at table two."

"She?"

"Yes. Her."

I nodded. Two hundred grand was better than nothing.

Thirty minutes later, I walked into the coffee shop after getting off a cab, the sample contract Bridgett had prepared tucked under my arm. I had added the amount myself, signed where I needed to, and now all that was left was a signature on the dotted line and this whole miserable chapter would be behind me.

I approached table two. The person sitting there was a woman, her face lowered, staring at her phone. But there was something about her that seemed familiar. The way she sat, the curve of her shoulder, the way her hair fell.

I slid into the seat across from her and said, "Hey."

She lifted her face.

And my heart dropped straight into my stomach.

It was Celeste.
