Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 643

The pain intensified until my body couldn't take it anymore. The room tilted, spun, and I felt myself falling, my knees hitting the tile, my shoulder crashing against the tub.

"No, no, this can't be happening now." I gasped, clawing at the floor. "I'm so close. I'm so close."

"No, no, no!"

Those were the last words I managed before the darkness swallowed me.

When I opened my eyes, I was in a hospital.

The pain was still there, everywhere now, not just in my groin. My face throbbed. My arms. My back. I felt like I had been hit by a truck and then parked on.

I tried to sit up, and white-hot fire shot through my spine. I fell back with a hiss.

"Don't try to move." A voice came from the corner of the room. "Your injuries are really severe."

I lifted my hand toward my face and froze. Bandages. My whole face was wrapped in bandages, bruises swelling underneath.

"What happened to me?" My voice came out slurred through the gauze.

I turned my head and looked at the man standing by the window, and my stomach dropped. A cop. In uniform, arms crossed, watching me like I was a bug he was deciding whether to squash.

I wanted to speak, and that was when I realized my left wrist was cuffed to the bed rail.

"Who are you, and what's going on here?"

"I'll get the doctor." The officer pushed off the wall and walked out.

A few minutes later, a doctor came in, a chart in his hand. "Oh, you're awake, Mr. Fisher."
