Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 642

I stopped at the window and looked out at the quiet street. "You may think I'm despicable for doing this, but you haven't left me any other choice. You belong to me, Celeste. You belong only to me. I made a mistake once, and I'm going to correct it. But you can only end up with me, in this life. Only with me."

I checked my watch. Ten minutes. Ten goddamn minutes.

"Come on," I muttered. "Come on."

I paced the length of the room, back and forth, restless, hungry. I hadn't touched Celeste in so long. I remembered the months near the end of our marriage when I had stopped touching her entirely, and I regretted every one of those nights now.

Back then, with Seraphine and a dozen others keeping me satisfied, sex with my own wife had felt boring. I liked being wild with those women, treating them like objects, like holes to fill, and then coming home to normal sex with Celeste had felt flat. I couldn't bring myself to treat her the way I treated them. She was special. She was my treasure.

So I had just stayed away from her, telling myself it was a phase, that I would cut the others off soon and everything would go back to the way it was.

Things had spiraled instead. That phase had cost me my marriage.

Never again. After today, I would never look at another woman. I had already cut off every reason Celeste might have to stay away from me. Seraphine was out of my life. My mother and sister were out of my house. And once Celeste was back with me, I planned to buy us a new house, somewhere with no memories of any of them. Whatever she wanted, I would do it for her. Anything, as long as she came back.

I sat on the bed again and reached out, stroking her cheek. "You're so beautiful, Celeste. And I love you so much."
