Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 647

Nothing. No response.

"No, no, no." My voice cracked. "Please don't do this to me, Celeste. Stay with me."

I lifted her off the bed, cradling her against my chest, and carried her toward the door. As I passed the bathroom, something caught my eye. A shape on the floor.

I stopped.

Julian.

Sprawled on the bathroom tile, half naked, his pants around his ankles, out cold.

I stared at him, and the pieces fell into place so fast it made me dizzy. He'd gotten in somehow. He'd knocked her mother out. He'd lured Celeste here and knocked her out too, and he'd been undressing her when something had taken him down mid-act.

He had been about to take her. He had been about to take what was mine.

If I'd had a free hand, I would have killed him where he lay.

I carried Celeste out of the room. The guards were coming up with Celeste's mother in their arms, and one of them said, "We found her Mom unconscious. All the other rooms are empty."

"Good." My voice came out flat and cold. "In the room where Celeste was, there's a man in the bathroom. Julian Fisher. He's unconscious."

The guards exchanged a look.

"Put her mother in the back of my car. I'll take them to the hospital." I looked at the two of them, and I let them see exactly what I meant. "As for that man, I want you to beat him to a pulp. Make sure his injuries are severe enough. Then call the police and have him arrested for trespassing and assault."

"Yes, sir."

"Once I've taken care of Celeste and her mother, I'll deal with him myself."

I carried Celeste out of the house and laid her in the passenger seat of my car, buckling her in, tucking my jacket around her shoulders. Her mother went into the back seat, unconscious, and I got behind the wheel and drove.

My heart was slamming against my ribs, and my hands were shaking on the wheel, and underneath all of it, under the fear, was a rage so pure I could taste it.
