When it got dark and her mother had gone to bed, I sat on the edge of our bed. Celeste was lying on her side, staring at the wall.
"Are you okay?" I asked softly. "Do you maybe want to talk to someone? Maybe a therapist?"
She sat up slowly, and when she turned to me, there were tears running down her cheeks.
"No, no, come on." I reached for her and wiped them away with my thumbs. "Don't cry. It's over. This is all over."
"You don't understand." Her voice broke. "I can't stop thinking about the fact that Julian could have succeeded. Dominic, what would have happened? How would I have faced you."
"But it didn't happen." I cupped her face, making her look at me. "Look at me. It didn't happen."
"I was too careless." She shook her head. "I should have been more alert. I should have known."
"Don't blame yourself." I held her gaze. "How could you have known Julian would sneak into your mother's home and wait for you? You didn't know. You didn't do anything wrong."
"Maybe." She looked away. "But if I'd told you about the message I got from my mom, maybe none of this would have happened. And I just remembered, Julian knows the password to my mom's house. I never thought to change it. How could I be so careless?"
"It's okay." I held her tighter. "It's okay."
"It's not okay." Her voice rose, cracking. "Just thinking about what could have happened, I feel so afraid, Dominic. I can't believe I could have lost you."
"You wouldn't have lost me."
"But I wouldn't have been able to face you." Tears spilled faster now. "Our wedding is not far away. I would have had to look you in the eyes, and I would have lost you, Dominic. I can't. I can't lose you. I can't imagine my life without you. I would be so empty. I would lose my will to live."
"Shh." I pulled her into my chest and held her there, one hand in her hair. "Don't say that, okay? I'm here. I'm not going anywhere. You're not going to lose me."
"I'm sorry." She sniffled against my shirt.
"I told you, it's not your fault." I kissed the top of her head. "Stop saying sorry."
"I love you so much, Dominic." Her voice was muffled, raw. "I love you so much."

The readers' comments on the novel: Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic)
Agent Frost better teach Tasha how to protect herself if anything gets out of hand or if she’s ever in danger or forced again...
I need some good news for Tasha. Special Agent hear her out and don’t let her get back into that life. Do I hear a romance or someone Tasha can truly count on besides Scarlett??...
I hope Tasha is let off and helped by this detective and gets away from all this maybe a twist for this novel is she gets on the good side of things and gets away from that life completely even if she has to separate herself from Scarlett but it appears Tasha gets hurt by Scarlett’s and sparrow’s stupidity as she’s blamed for Scarlett’s decisions...
Her life is ruined and Scarlett’s been living a luxurious life through it all...
I officially hate everyone for hurting Tasha and allowing things to happen to her. This whole Sparrow and Scarlett situation is some BS....
It’s a bit stupid that as powerful and ruthless sparrow is he and Scarlett sure do a lousy job of protecting and having guard on Tasha. Like how did all of this happen to her if he was supposed to be protecting her based on the contract??...
More Chapters Please...
I thought it said 10 chapters a day??? It’s been like 2-3 days and no update after chapter 574. The release time is so inconsistent, I have started to just loose interest....
Just find Tasha and get her some help. How did she have sparrow’s men watching her if she really cared so much. Scarlett’s character is so suspect…...
Storyline is interesting it’s just so much sexual content I have to skip through just find out the main context of the story....
