Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 651

CELESTE

Julian and Seraphine were now working in concert to fool the single biggest idiot of the century. Felix hadn't even needed to be recruited. He'd probably volunteered, tripping over himself to hand his sister's enemy a house, all for the woman currently standing in his doorway in borrowed virtue.

Seraphine knelt beside Felix, fussing over him, playing the devoted nurse. But as she rose and walked closer to me, she dropped her voice to something only I could hear, and her lips barely moved.

"I can't wait to see you two tear each other apart."

I looked at her. The evil gleam in her eyes, the excitement she couldn't keep off her face, the hunger in it. And behind that gleam, I saw my mother, unconscious in her bedroom.

I drew back and drove my fist across Seraphine's face.

She went down hard, tumbling sideways across the walkway, her hair flying, landing in an undignified heap with her dress hiked up and her palm scraping the concrete.

Seraphine Eagle, on the ground, in the dirt, where she'd apparently spent her whole life and somehow kept forgetting to stay, was a little satisfying.

"Next one's for my mom," I told her, shaking out my hand. "Start deciding which cheek you want to keep."

I drew my fist back for a second swing, but one of my guards peeled away from Felix and caught my arm.

"Ma'am, don't dirty your hands." He positioned himself squarely between me and Seraphine. "If you want the two of them dealt with, we'll handle it. You don't need to stress yourself."
