Two Can Play (Celeste and Dominic) novel Chapter 679

"If that dress arrives and you don't wear it, there'll be trouble."

My stomach twisted into a knot. "I already have a dress picked out."

"Tell me your room number, so I can have it delivered. I already know which hotel you're staying at."

The floor seemed to tilt. "How did you know that?"

"There's nothing I want to know that I can't find out." Smug. Utterly smug. "I want that dress delivered immediately. Someone will be at the hotel within minutes. Give me your room number and I'll have a waiter bring it up. Don't waste my time."

Arguing with him had never once improved my life.

"There's no need. Just leave it at the reception. I'll come down and collect it myself."

"Fine. As long as you pick it up. But if I don't see you wearing that dress today, you'll have a problem with me." There was a beat. "Come downstairs within five minutes. It'll be waiting."

"Okay." I ended the call and leaned on the sink for a moment, breathing.

Back in the suite, Scarlett was still at the mirror, blending away, oblivious.

I drifted over and stood beside her, admiring the half-finished face in the mirror with a smile I manufactured from nothing, while my eyes ticked to the clock on the wall. Four minutes. Three.

"Keep doing your makeup." I grabbed my room key. "I'll be right back."

She paused, brush in the air, and looked me over.

"You haven't even changed into any of the dresses we picked out. You're still in your regular clothes. Where exactly are you going?"

"I just want to check something at the reception. I won't be long."

She studied me for a long moment, the way she did, and then smiled. "Okay. But hurry back."

I rode the elevator down with my heart tapping out a nervous rhythm, crossed the lobby, and spotted her immediately, a woman standing beside the reception desk with a flat parcel held against her chest.
