Night fell...
Clara sat motionless in the yard, waiting for Elio to return with news about Aiden and Alex.
Nestor handed her a cup of honey water, "Clara, even if you don't eat, you should drink something to boost your energy, or you might pass out."
Clara turned slightly, managed a small smile, and took the cup from him, "Thank you."
"I heard you talking with Elio. I totally get how you're feeling now. My daughter was once missing, kidnapped. I had the same feeling, wishing they'd taken me instead! I'd give anything, even my own life!"
Clara lowered her head and said, "I can't do anything here. That wicked woman is after my kids. I feel so helpless! I don't deserve to be their mother!"
Nestor gently patted her shoulder, comforting her, "Don't say that. How could the kids blame their own mother? You brought them into this world. You've done nothing wrong to them."
"But now I'm powerless..."
"Even if you can't do anything now, I believe you, like me back then, would be willing to give your own life to protect the kids' safety, right?"
Clara sighed, "Yes! Leah can take my life as long as she doesn't harm my children."
Hearing Leah's name, Nestor visibly stiffened.
His face grew stern, his voice colder. "Leah always creates trouble in the Milburn family. It's not the first time. Everyone in the Milburn family hates her!"
Clara frowned, staying quiet.
The honey water in her hand was still warm but couldn't warm her icy heart.
