Two Times the Charm (Clara and Emmett) novel Chapter 490

Alex grimaced, clearly not the type to keep his cool.

Emmett had just picked up his thermos, about to savor a sip of the soup he’d been looking forward to all day.

But suddenly Alex lunged straight for him!

Caught off guard, Emmett couldn’t react in time, and the soup splashed onto the floor.

"Aw, jeez! Daddy, I'm sorry, I didn't know it was soup!" Alex looked up at his dad with a face full of guilt.

Emmett sighed, resigned. He knew all too well the little schemes his son might have up his sleeve, but he couldn’t really fault him.

Going with the flow, he ruffled Alex's hair and said, "No worries, kiddo. Accidents happen and besides, Ms. Calloway can whip up another batch in no time!"

With that said, what could Leah possibly argue?

She had spent ages perfecting that soup recipe, and not a single spoonful had been tasted!

Sophia, ever the indulgent grandmother, quickly pulled Alex aside to check him over, "Did you get burned at all, sweetie?"

Alex shook his head, "No harm done, Grandma. I just feel bad about the soup. Dad didn’t even get to try it! Maybe Ms. Calloway could make another pot. I think Dad would really like it!"

"Alright, I'll make more," Leah forced a smile, picking up the thermos and bending down to mop up the mess. At that moment, she felt like a mere servant in the Melendez family.

While they all chatted and laughed, she was the one bending down to clean up!

"Hey, Dad, I found a book I think you'll like. I brought it for you to read when you have the time," Aiden said, fetching a copy of “Robinson Crusoe” from his little backpack.

[I'm with the butler, can't come to you right now. I'll drop by your room when I'm free.]

Leah had suspected as much about Clara's phone!

Having it still with her actually made it easier to contact her without raising suspicion by sneaking around the house.

Frowning, Leah locked her door and dialed another number.

The person on the other end answered with a tinge of annoyance, “So, you've decided to call me, huh? I was starting to think you’d forgotten about me completely!”

“How could I? You've been a great help to me. Didn’t I tell you? Once I'm married to Emmett, you'll get your fair share of the benefits.”

“You think I'm interested in your rewards?” Mr. Quintin's voice was laced with displeasure. “Out with it, Leah. Why are you calling? It seems you only remember me when you need something!”
