Seraphina gasped.

Dominic's face went white with horror, and he instinctively lunged forward.

The moment his foot moved, Cynthia let out a weak cry and collapsed toward the dirt.

Dominic froze, then immediately pivoted and caught her before she hit the ground.

But the hound merely scrambled to its feet, sidestepping Tristan and vaulting back toward Seraphina, hellbent on tearing her apart.

Seraphina looked up. Gideon was standing just feet away, a smoking pistol gripped tightly in his hand.

He holstered the weapon and rushed over to haul her up.

"Move!"

A medic sprinted over, dropping to his knees to check her bleeding leg.

But Seraphina grabbed his wrist. "No, get her on the chopper! You can patch me up in the air. Lily doesn't have time."

The medic looked up at Gideon for confirmation.

Gideon's jaw ticked in furious protest, but he finally gave a curt nod.
