Seraphina glanced at the necklace and frowned. "What are you doing with this?"

"A gift for you."

Gideon said it as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Seraphina didn't even have to think before refusing. "I don't want it."

A few of the nearby associates couldn't help but sneak a peek.

People would kill for a chance to buy this necklace, yet she had rejected it without a second of hesitation.

Gideon acted as if he had anticipated her refusal. "It didn't cost much."

Standing beside them, the manager's eye twitched.

Seraphina let out an exasperated sigh and looked up at him. "Do you have a fundamental misunderstanding of the phrase 'didn't cost much'?"

Gideon's lips curved into a smirk. "I made a solid profit on our recent joint project. Think of it as a thank-you gift. Without you, the project wouldn't have gone nearly as smoothly."

"You earned that yourself. I only did what was required of me."

"So you don't want it?"

"Of course not."

Gideon watched her deadpan refusal, a flicker of amusement flashing in his eyes. He leaned in closer. "Then let's try a different reason. Wearing it will definitely piss off your ex-husband and his little homewrecker."

Seraphina couldn't help but laugh out loud.

That reasoning was much more appealing.

She looked down at the necklace, a sudden memory surfacing in her mind.

During her six years of marriage to Dominic, he had never given her a proper gift.

She used to think it was just because he was so busy with work. He was a naturally aloof man, so it made sense that he didn't care for grand romantic gestures. Every time, she had made excuses for him, even going out of her way to prepare gifts for him instead.

It was only later she realized it wasn't that he was incapable, nor did he simply forget.
