He drank heavily, and no one dared to speak to him. The people who used to flock around him now stayed far away.
Seraphina sat on the other side, watching him from a distance, feeling an indescribable mix of emotions.
Someone handed her a drink.
She took it and had a sip.
Then everything changed.
Dizzy and flushed, she remembered leaning against the wall to walk, hearing someone laugh, and then someone came to help her, leading her into a room.
There seemed to be another person in the room.
Then she remembered nothing.
When she woke up, she was lying on a hotel bed, with Dominic beside her.
Then Cynthia burst in with a group of people.
She covered her mouth and ran out crying.
A large crowd of classmates followed, everyone believing she had climbed into Dominic's bed.
She had tried to explain.
No one believed her.
She replayed the events over and over.
The drink was handed to her by a girl in her class named Stella Turner, and Stella was Cynthia's best friend.
That night, Cynthia knew perfectly well that Dominic was drunk, knew what would happen, yet her best friend Stella led her into Dominic's room.
Then she brought everyone to catch them in the act.
...
Seraphina opened her eyes. Outside the car window, the neon lights were still flashing by.
From start to finish, this was a trap designed by Cynthia.
Dominic's business was collapsing, the Ross family didn't want to be dragged down, and Cynthia needed a graceful excuse to leave.
There was no better excuse than being betrayed.
She got out completely unscathed, flew abroad, and started a new life.
The window rolled down. Chelsea sat in the driver's seat, looking annoyed.
"Get in."
Seraphina opened the door and got in. Chelsea slammed on the gas, and the car shot forward.
"What the hell is going on with Cynthia?" Chelsea gripped the steering wheel, her eyes fixed on the road, but the fury in her voice was uncontainable.
"How could her garbage design win first place? Are the judges blind?"
Seraphina leaned against the seat.
Chelsea glanced at her sideways, her frown deepening.
"Why aren't you mad?"
Seraphina offered a faint smile. "Does being mad help?"
Chelsea choked on her words. She tapped her fingers on the steering wheel twice before speaking again. "With her skill level, how could she possibly beat you? That bastard Dominic must have pulled some strings."
Seraphina didn't deny it.
Chelsea took her silence as an answer and swore under her breath, "Blind idiot."
