Wait.
Seraphina was completely stunned.
She genuinely wondered if she had misheard him.
Keep her position? Full salary? No required hours?
Since when did corporate miracles like this happen?
Gideon glanced at her, seemingly reading the sheer confusion on her face, and smoothly added, "I'm aware you recently salvaged a deal with a major overseas client."
Seraphina's eyes widened slightly.
She was even more shocked now.
She hadn't expected a man as powerful as Gideon Cole to be briefed on something so trivial.
She instinctively looked over at Victor and Julian. The professor was quietly sipping his tea, an unreadable smirk playing on his lips. Julian was staring intently at his phone, though he was failing miserably at hiding a massive grin.
Seraphina pulled her gaze back to Gideon, taking a deep breath.
"Then... thank you, Mr. Cole."
Whether he was doing this as a favor to her professor or because he actually valued her talent, she wasn't about to turn down such an incredible offer.
After all, only a fool would reject a golden ticket.
Just then, the sound of hurried footsteps echoed outside the door.
Myles pushed into the private room, stepping swiftly to Gideon's side and whispering something in his ear.
Gideon stood up, offering Victor a polite nod. "Professor Vane, something urgent has come up. I need to take my leave."
Victor waved him off effortlessly. "Go on. Business first."
Gideon walked out.
As the door clicked shut, Seraphina's mind was still looping the words 'no need to resign.' It took her a long moment to fully process what had just happened.
Victor looked at her, slowly nursing his tea.
He chuckled softly, turning his attention to Julian. "The man is usually a stickler for the rules. Since when did he become so accommodating?"
He said it casually, but his tone was laced with heavy implication.
Julian smiled and nodded in agreement.
"Right? I've known Gideon for a long time, and I've never seen him give anyone this kind of preferential treatment. There's definitely something going on there."
As soon as the words left his mouth, both men turned their eyes on Seraphina.
She blinked, completely bewildered, and looked at her professor. "What are you... talking about?"
Her eyes darted to the BBQ ribs next.
The ribs were perfectly glazed, glistening with a thick, savory sauce.
She licked her lips and sneakily reached her little hand out, trying to grab a piece.
"Ahem."
Dominic cleared his throat.
Lily's hand snapped back, and she stole a fearful glance at her father.
Dominic wasn't even looking at her; he was scrolling through his phone while he ate.
But Lily knew exactly what that sound meant.
Ever since her stomach got pumped at the hospital, Dominic hadn't let her touch real food.
Every day, it was plain oatmeal, thin broth, and the occasional serving of boiled greens with barely a pinch of salt.
Miserable, Lily lowered her head and shoveled another spoonful of the bland mush into her mouth.
She didn't dare throw a tantrum.
If she cried, her dad wouldn't bring her out with him anymore.
