Unloved Unwanted Unstoppable (Seraphina and Dominic) novel Chapter 87

"Nonsense."

Clara cut her off gently. "You just focus on resting. I'll be back later."

Seraphina knew her mother was simply too worried to stay away, so she finally nodded in defeat.

"Okay. Please be careful driving back."

Clara hummed in agreement, flashed Chelsea a grateful smile, and left the room.

Once the door clicked shut, Chelsea handed over half of the peeled orange, her mind looping back to their earlier conversation. "Are you seriously saying... someone intentionally tried to run you over?"

Seraphina nodded.

"That car took the corner going incredibly fast, and it didn't swerve or correct its path at all. It was aiming dead center for where I was standing. If it weren't for that metal guardrail blocking the impact..."

She trailed off, but Chelsea's expression had already turned icy.

"Who the hell is it?"

Seraphina shook her head. "I don't know, it's just a gut feeling right now. That road is practically dead at that hour. For a car to show up exactly then, and speed off that cleanly... it's too much of a coincidence."

Chelsea thought in silence for a moment, then aggressively tapped on her phone.

"That absolute psycho. I swear I'm going to drag whoever did this out into the light! I'll have someone pull every single piece of surveillance footage from that entire grid and scrub through it frame by frame. If someone actually tried to take you out..."

She narrowed her eyes, pure rage practically radiating off her.

The knot of anxiety in Seraphina's chest finally loosened.

"Chelsea, I don't know what I'd do without you."

Chelsea scoffed loudly. "Save the sappy stuff. Just focus on healing and don't make me do all this legwork for nothing."

The two of them fell into an easy chatter, though Chelsea's phone practically vibrated off the table the entire time.

Seraphina knew exactly how demanding her friend's business was.

When the phone rang for the fifth time and Chelsea reached to instinctively decline it, Seraphina grabbed her wrist.

"Enough, stop ignoring your calls. Go handle your business. I'm not so battered that I need a 24/7 babysitter."

Chelsea hesitated, then nodded. "Alright, fine. I'll go sort out this mess and come right back when I'm done."

Seraphina sighed. "You really don't have to go through all this trouble..."

Her left calf was wrapped in a thick cast, propped securely on a stack of pillows.

Spotting the figure at the door, Lily froze for a split second, then immediately burst into ear-piercing wails.

She opened and closed her mouth, desperately trying to scream, but the words wouldn't come out. Her face was a picture of absolute misery.

Seraphina's heart clenched violently as she limped toward the bed.

She reached out to gently stroke her daughter's tear-stained cheek.

"Lily, what happened? Where does it hurt?"

Lily wailed so hard she could barely catch her breath. "My leg hurts... it hurts so bad... I'm hurting..."

Seraphina immediately inspected her daughter's leg.

There was no blood seeping through the bandages, and her toes were moving normally.

She let out a massive sigh of relief and turned to Ms. Lyons standing nearby.

Ms. Lyons looked incredibly stressed, and seeing Seraphina turn to her, she quickly explained the situation.
