When Kay saw Caroline enter, she walked over and said, “He insisted on waiting for you in the room. I couldn’t sleep anyway, so I stayed here with him.”

She glanced at Shane, who gave a slight nod.

Now, Shane had recovered and had the right to choose whether to leave or stay.

Shane went on to explain why he was leaving.

As Caroline and Shane entered, Jasper sensed them immediately. He shyly climbed out of Nelson’s arms and haughtily said, “Jasper doesn’t bend over for a cat treat, okay? I was just confused!”

Caroline didn’t bother correcting him and gently patted his head.

Nelson stirred, rubbing his eyes and ruffling his messy hair. “Caroline, I’ve completed the preliminary research on the drug to block the Sea People’s sound. I can hand it over to the military tomorrow for testing on two of them.”

No wonder Nelson could rest easy–he had already finished the work!

Shane’s visit was straightforward. He just came to say goodbye to Nelson. Nothing more.
