When Kay saw Caroline enter, she walked over and said, He insisted on waiting for you in the room. I couldn’t sleep anyway, so I stayed here with him.

She glanced at Shane, who gave a slight nod.

Although Shane’s mental state had improved, his personality was still a bit obsessive, with flashes of unpredictability.

Just looking at him, you could feel it. His gaze always carried a sense of, Is this person going to hurt me?

When Shane looked at Caroline, she couldn’t help but tense up, instinctively alert. You’re looking for me?

Shane nodded slightly. I want to see Nelson.”

Just as Caroline expected, Shane was here mostly to see Nelson.

She didn’t mind. If anything, she thought it was safer for Shane to enter her space temporarily than stay outside.

He always gave off a threatening vibe, and his actions rarely followed logic.

Then Shane said something that made Caroline frown, I want to say goodbye to him.

Is he planning to leave?

Well, it made sense. They hadn’t had much connection with Shane all along. At first, neither of them had really liked him and would have gladly sent him away.

Later, Nelson found a way to keep him in check, and Caroline agreed to let him stay.

Now, Shane had recovered and had the right to choose whether to leave or stay.

Though this man was a powerful asset in fighting the Sea People, he was still dangerous.

Shane went on to explain why he was leaving.

He planned to return to the desert. Now that his mind was clear, he understood just how strange the man there really was.

He wanted to try to kill him again.

Otherwise, he couldn’t predict what that man might do in three months.

I don’t want you to come with me. That man is too dangerous. This time, I’ll go alone and make sure I’m fully prepared by enhancing my abilities along the way.

As he spoke, his eyes held a touch of madness. Every muscle in his body tensed, fists clenched tight.

Caroline nodded slightly.

If what Shane said about the man was true, then right now, only Shane could stop him.

Caroline even thought about helping Shane boost his strength.

With that in mind, she told Kay to rest and led Shane into the space.

Inside, Nelson was already asleep.

It was rare to see him asleep so early, curled up with Jasper in his arms. Jasper’s mouth still showed traces of a cat treat. Nelson lay on the floor, his neck resting on two measuring cups, fast asleep.

As Caroline and Shane entered, Jasper sensed them immediately. He shyly climbed out of Nelson’s arms and haughtily said, Jasper doesn’t bend over for a cat treat, okay? I was just confused!

Caroline didn’t bother correcting him and gently patted his head.

Nelson stirred, rubbing his eyes and ruffling his messy hair. Caroline, I’ve completed the preliminary research on the drug to block the Sea People’s sound. I can hand it over to the military tomorrow for testing on two of them.

Caroline’s eyes

lit up.

No wonder Nelson could rest easyhe had already finished the work!

As expected of Nelson, as always!

Shane’s visit was straightforward. He just came to say goodbye to Nelson. Nothing more.

To Shane, Nelson was almost like a second parent who had given him a second life.
