“After all, that guy sounds pretty powerful. If Shane can help us deal with it, it’ll reduce our troubles. So for the next few days, Shane’s your responsibility. Do whatever you need to strengthen his body. How you use the spring water is up to you. I’ve also got some acid rain- I’ll turn that over to you, too. Use it however you think is best.”

After hearing Nelson’s idea, Caroline agreed. She handed over the acid rain as well and let him do as he pleased.

After getting some sleep, Caroline woke up very early the next morning.

She had two important things to do today–see Kay off as she left the base to rejoin her unit, and turn Nelson’s research over to the government.

Kay’s departure was kept very low–key.

Just like when she had quietly arrived at the base.

Because of the situation in Hornvale and the crises facing different regions, there was no vehicle available to take Kay back. She had to return on her own.

Caroline originally wanted to find her a mount, but after digging around in her space for a long time, she realized–there wasn’t a single reliable option!

“Caroline, now that Kay has her looks back, do you think she’ll get chased by all those young soldiers when she returns?

“And she’s so cold on the outside, but she doesn’t really know how to reject people. Do you think next time we see her, she’ll already have a kid?

“If I talk to Nathaniel now and ask to be transferred to the front line, do you think there’s a chance?”

Francis fired off three questions in a row, his eyes full of hope, clearly waiting for Caroline to comfort him.

Caroline gently patted his shoulder and gave him a few words. “I don’t know either.”

After hearing that, Francis grabbed his hair hard, like he had a personal grudge against it.
