Henry kept a low profile, just going between campus and home. He barely showed up on anyone’s radar and had never made enemies.
So, the whole mess was probably Ethan’s doing.
Henry muttered softly, “So this is your revenge? Too bad. You might as well have just killed me.”
His mind raced, thoughts spinning out of control. If Ethan was behind that, there was only one way things could end.
One of them had to die.
A doctor came in. “You’re awake? Don’t move too much. You still need rest.”
Henry nodded. He’d calmed down. Life had to go on, and he needed to pull himself together.
The doctor checked him, frowning. “Whoever did this was ruthless. Your legs can’t be saved. Today, we just stopped the bleeding and cleaned the wound. You need to prepare yourself.”
The message was clear. Amputation was real, and facing it would take guts.
“Is there truly no other choice?” Henry asked.
“If you don’t amputate, blood won’t flow. Nerves could die, and toxins could spread. The consequences would be terrible.”
“What if I exercise and get massages to help circulation? Could I keep them as they are?”
“In theory, yes. But it won’t be fixed overnight. I’ve seen a lot of patients, and few handle it as calmly as you. You’ve got serious willpower. But hoping for a miracle is risky. The safest path is amputation.”
Henry stayed quiet for a moment before saying, “I need to think.”
The doctor nodded. “Okay. But don’t wait too long. And don’t move around. If the broken bone punctures a vessel, you could bleed internally.”
With that, the doctor left.
A nurse came in, cleaned his legs, and checked if he felt pain.
Good thing he already had a catheter, or getting up for a bathroom would have been a nightmare.
Henry felt dazed. Before he realized it, he’d drifted off to sleep. When he woke, it was already morning. He felt a little better, though his lower legs were still numb. Everything else was fine.
Lying in bed for so long was uncomfortable. He struggled to sit up against the headboard and grabbed his phone from the side.
The screen was cracked, but it still worked-just ugly.
He spotted a contact named “Rosalie” and almost called, but he hesitated.
After thinking for a moment, he put the phone down.
Rosalie Jensen was one of the most important people in his life, though she and Luciana had never gotten along.
Not long after, someone opened the door. Henry turned his head and saw Luciana.
“Why are you sitting up? You need to rest. I brought you congee. The doctor said you should eat something light.”
She carried the food in one hand, fruit in the other, and walked to his bed.
Henry reached for it. He was starving, so he started eating slowly.
Luciana watched him, her eyes full of guilt and worry.
“Sit down. Why are you standing?” Henry said.
“Okay.”
She pulled up a chair beside him.

Henry took a deep breath and stared at her coldly. “I know what you’ve been doing. Out partying, dancing with other guys, getting hotel rooms… I know everything!”
Luciana’s eyes widened. Her face instantly turned pale, panic written all over her.
He pressed on. “And this whole thing-why are my legs broken? You know the truth. I also know who set me up. You’re just using William as a scapegoat because you stopped caring about me long ago. Now that I’m crippled, you have no reason to stay. Divorce is the only respectful thing to do. We can part on good terms, and I’ll wish you well. But if you won’t divorce me and keep sneaking around, that’s just humiliating.”
Luciana never expected Henry to expose the ugly truth so bluntly.
His words hit her hard, leaving her flustered and lost.
She bit her lip and said, “You’re wrong. I never went to a hotel with anyone. I never cheated. You’re my husband. I still love you. I’m not divorcing you. I’ll take care of you for the rest of your life.”
Henry just smiled, saying nothing.
After a long silence, Luciana’s phone rang. She glanced at it, her expression shifting. She hung up and left the ward.
Henry caught a glimpse of the caller ID-it was Ethan. He knew something was going on, and his face darkened.
Ten minutes later, she returned. “Get some rest. Don’t overthink it. I’ve got to deal with something at work.”
As she left, her mind was a mess.
Hubby, I love you.
But life isn’t just about love. If revenge could fix your legs, I’d pull every string I have. But things aren’t that simple. Ethan is the son of the Thompsons. He’s untouchable. Making him pay up is already the best I can manage.
This way, our life can be better from now on.
Hubby, you’re trapped in your head right now, but someday you’ll understand why I did this.
