Wasteland Queen: My Harvest Power novel Chapter 36

Chapter 36 Trapped

Now that the water was gone, the drop was about 15 feet-perfect for trapping a beast.

“Let’s go down!” The one who saved her was Ursula. One of her arms hung limp, probably broken.

Reina glanced back, then nodded.

They had no choice but to go into the pit. The beast was already chasing them, and it wasn’t slow.

The pit blocked their path. Whether they liked it or not, they had to jump in.

Reina helped Ursula down to the bottom and moved toward the center as much as possible.

The pit was huge, over 600 feet wide. It was packed with every kind of bug. It was disgusting.

Swallowing her nausea, Reina stepped on them. She wanted to use her flamethrower to clear a path-butt was lost in the fall along with her helmet. Her protective suit was ripped in two places, too.

Luckily, the bug repellent in her pocket was still there. She took out two bottles and sprayed herself and Ursula.

It worked well. The bugs avoided their legs and stopped crawling onto them.

“Rooaaar!”

Another roar. The beast had reached the willow tree. It saw them in the pit, roared angrily, but didn’t dare come down.

Then another beast showed up. Now two of them circled the pit.

“They won’t come down, but we can’t go up either,” Ursula said helplessly. “I wonder if anyone’s coming to help.”

Reina shook her head. “After what just happened? No one’s coming”

Even the mercenary corps probably didn’t expect the beast to have an ability, especially one with such a large range.

“Yeah…” Ursula sighed. Her face was getting paler.

Her arm was broken. She’d only made it this far on pure survival instinct.

Now that she had stopped moving, she was about to collapse,

Seeing this, Reina quickly took out a handful of meat cubes and handed them over. “Eat something. We still need to run later.”

Ursula took it and said thanks. Just as she was about to eat, a black, white, and blue little magpie shot down from the willow tree like an arrow, flying straight at her face.

She panicked and dodged, raising her fist to hit it, but Reina stepped in front of her.

Chapter 36 Trapped

“Maggie!” Reina held up the meat cubes. “Over here!”

The little magpie slammed the brakes and crashed right into Reina’s arms, knocking out a couple of feathers.

Reina groaned, clutching her stomach and bending over in pain.

Ursula was left speechless.

The little magpie was stunned too. It forgot to struggle, just sitting there in Reina’s arms.

“You okay?” Ursula asked, worried.

“I’m fine,” Reina said after a moment.

“Chirp! Chirp!” Not fine at all.

Maggie struggled its head out from under Reina’s arm, looking around for its meat.

“What is that?” Ursula looked surprised that the magpie wasn’t scared of people. “Is it your pet?”

Reina nodded vaguely. “Yeah.”

“That bird saved us just now, right?” Ursula finally remembered the scary moment when the mutant bird screeched over Reina’s head.

Back then, Ursula was pretty far away, but even the shockwave of that screech told her it was a mental attack.

At first, she thought the mutant bird was attacking Reina. But Reina was fine, while the beast slowed down for a moment.

So Ursula had quickly used her speed ability and rushed over to pull Reina away.

Reina patted the magpie’s head. “Yeah. Maggie is a Level 2 mutant bird. Its skill is a mental attack.”

“It’s already Level 2 at this size?” Ursula looked at it with envy. “You must’ve spent a lot raising it.”

“Yeah.” Reina smiled and shamelessly took the credit.

The little magpie couldn’t talk anyway. It definitely didn’t understand what Ursula was saying.

“Chirp! Chirp!” Maggie finally broke free from Reina’s arms and jumped onto her backpack.

Reina raised her hand and offered the meat cubes again. “Eat. Help me out one more time later.”

The giant beast had already climbed down into the pit. Its heavy body sank into the mud, and it kept roaring loudly.

The other beast was smarter. It didn’t come down. It just circled the pit, roaring.

Strangely, the beast in the pit looked like its legs were stuck in the mud. It couldn’t move at all.
