Chapter 6 Danger

Reina jumped and bolted.

Luckily, the giant snake didn’t chase her. It just twisted around where it was, crushing the mutant plants around it into a messy. pulp.

Reina quickly hid behind a thick clump of mutant plants and secretly watched.

Once she saw what was happening, she relaxed a little.

The black python had a huge wound on its body, and it was crawling with bugs.

The bugs moved in and out of the flesh nonstop, like parasites stuck to bone.

Reina felt chills run all over her body. She grabbed her bug repellent and sprayed it on her protective suit and took a long detour toward the thistle.

More than 30 minutes later, she finally saw the Level 4 thistle again. But this time, it was also covered in black bugs, making it look creepy.

Reina hesitated, but in the end, she decided to cut one branch to harvest. High-grade mutant medicinal herbs like this were hard to

find.

She checked her suit, tightened her straps, and moved in with her dagger.

With one slash, black bugs fell off the plant. Some of them flew toward her.

After a few more hacks, a huge branch finally fell. Reina dragged it a safe distance away, sprayed it down to kill the bugs, and used her Harvesting Ability.

Reina smiled. She quickly stuffed the thistle into her backpack and went back to cut more branches.

After collecting nine branches with moderate contamination values, her Energy dropped to just 1 point.

Reina took out a low-grade energy recovery potion and drank it in one gulp.

Her mind instantly cleared. When she checked her Energy again, it was fully restored.

Reina was thrilled. She quickly harvested nine more times and got nine more Level 4 thistle branches with moderate

contamination values.

Her Energy was back down to 1, but there were still about ten branches left at the top of the thistle

Reina looked up and had an idea.

She took out her last mid-grade energy recovery potion and drank it. Her Energy instantly filled up, even overflowing by 2 points

She didn’t waste a second. She aimed her skill at the very top of the plant.

Ding! “Energy -1. Harvest successful. EXP +10. Gained a Level 4 thistle branch. Contamination Value: 52…”

Chapter 6 Danger

Reina grinned at the bunch of 30-inch branches in her hand.

Her guess was right. Since the top branches were smaller, she could harvest them all at once.

But the main trunk of the thistle hadn’t withered yet. Did that mean she could harvest it, too?

Reina reached out and used her skill again.

Ding! “Energy-1. Harvest successful. EXP +50. Gained a Level 4 energy crystal. Absorbing it will permanently increase Energy by 2 points.”

No way!

Rejna stared at the sparkling, egg-sized crystal in her palm and felt overjoyed.

Absorb! she said silently in her mind. The crystal shrank until it turned into a tiny pile of gray dust.

Immediately, her Energy stat jumped from 10 to 12/12.

Even the 2 Energy she had just used was restored. The mid-level potion she drank earlier must still be working its magic.

What was she waiting for?

Reina threw on her backpack and hurried back. On the way, she harvested anything that had even a little value.

Ding! “Energy-1. Harvest successful. EXP +1. Gained a bug-chewed mutant nightshade. Contamination Value: 31.”

Ding! “Energy-1. Harvest successful. EXP +2. Gained a damaged mutant daisy. Contamination Value: 32.)

Ten minutes later, her Energy base started dropping. Reina finally stopped randomly harvesting and hurried on her way.

The black mist was starting to thin out, but the bugs were still everywhere.

They kept chewing through the plants, and their bodies were growing fast-they were already way bigger than when they first appeared.

Reina frowned. A wave of panic hit her.

If these swarms of bugs spread into the base, what kind of disaster would happen?

She picked up her pace, her eyes darting around nervously.

Eventually, she passed the spot where she’d seen the black python earlier. It was dead now, lying completely still

Countless maggots, each about the length of a finger, crawled in and out of the python’s wound and mouth. The massive body had clearly been hollowed out.

Reina’s skin crawled. When she saw a wave of those long maggots start slithering toward her at high speed, she bolted

She sprayed bug repellent all over herself as she ran.

After finally escaping that area, Reina stopped in shock at the scene ahead.

Mutant beasts were struggling everywhere. Some were dead. Others were running around madly.

These were mutant animals rarely seen near the camp-squirrels, rabbits, hedgehogs, snakes, and birds.

Some were being bitten by bugs. Others were trapped by mutant plants, desperately fighting to survive.

Even a mutant spider the size of a car tire was being chased by many mutant bugs. Terrified, it spat out silk and buried itself.

Reina didn’t stop. She ran even faster. But suddenly, she tripped over something and fell to the ground.

Looking back, she saw a grayish-green vine wrapped around her ankle, slowly crawling up her leg.

Reina swung her dagger and sliced the vine off her ankle, but before she could move, another one whipped out of nowhere and wrapped around her arm.
