Reina nodded, and the three of them hurried back to camp.

When they got close, they saw many well-equipped ability users and mercenaries clearing out bugs and crazed mutant beasts

Some used flamethrowers, while others were blasting fire directly from their hands.

Streams of fire whipped through the air like snakes, burning huge groups of insects along with mutant plants and animals.

The air stank like burnt hair and meat.

“Hey, do you have an ability?” Chloe nudged Reina with her elbow, looking at the ability users with envy.

Reina nodded. “Yeah. Harvesting.”

Chloe’s eyes widened. “You have an ability? No wonder you dared to go into the wilderness alone!”

Reina gave a bitter smile. “It’s not a combat ability. I can only harvest some mutant plants.”

“That’s still amazing.”

Chloe sighed as they walked. “I wish I could awaken an ability too. I wouldn’t even care what kind. Then I could bring my whole family to live in the inner city.”

Reina adjusted her heavy backpack. She was curious. “You don’t have an ability? You look pretty strong

Chloe had basically dragged her along while Reina was carrying over a hundred pounds of gear

Chloe grinned. “You forgot? I was born strong. It’s not an ability.”

Then she pointed at Gerard. “Gerard’s the only one on our team with an ability, Speed type. He just awakened it less than two months ago.”

Reina nodded and glanced at Gerard. He was tall and skinny. With the mask and helmet on, it was hard to tell how old he was

After chatting for a while, Reina finally asked, “Chloe, why did you suddenly drop out of school back then?”

Chloe scratched her head. “My dad got badly contaminated during a mission. We didn’t have money for treatment. My mom had to sell our house in the inner city to pay for it. But my dad still didn’t make it.”

In fact, they’d sold not just the house but also their inner city residency and anything valuable and eventually had to move to the outer city.

Reina fell silent. Then she held up her smartwatch. “Add me. Next time we go to the wilderness, we can team up

“Sure!” Chloe happily held out her smartwatch, and the two of them added each other

Reina asked, “Are you guys going out again later?”

Chloe shook her head. “With how things are outside, we wouldn’t get anything And Gerard’s protective suit got torn. He has to go

fix it.”

I see.

As they walked, Reina looked more closely at Chloe and Gerard. Only then did she notice their protective suits were covered in. patches. Even the helmets had cracks.

The pants were even worse. The knees had two or three patches sewn on.

“Where are you staying? I’ll come find you later,” Reina said.

Chloe said, “Camp tent, spot number 37.”

“Got it.” Reina nodded.

Soon, the three of them returned to camp.

Reina waved at Chloe. “I’m going to the trading hall first.”

“Okay.” Chloe waved back and ran toward the tents.

Reiną walked into the trading hall and went to the same booth as yesterday. She took everything out of her backpack.

Since she only had so much strength, she had ditched all the random weeds she’d picked up along the way. Her bag only had thistles-28 bundles.

“That many?” The staff member, Taylor, stared at her in disbelief.

“Yeah. All moderate contamination. I exchanged some here yesterday.”

Reina didn’t want to waste time haggling, so she reminded Taylor, “Your supervisor gave me at 6 points per gram.”

“I remember!” Taylor nodded quickly. He didn’t even call his supervisor and just took the thistles.

He tested and weighed them one by one. It came out to about 84 pounds-over 42,000 grams.

Taylor looked at Reina again, wondering how such a small girl managed to carry an 80 pounds of backpack back to camp.

But this batch of thistles had an even lower Contamination Value than yesterday’s. The 6-point rate was totally fair.

Taylor double-checked his calculator. “The total is 252,798 points. Does that look right?”

Reina nodded and asked, “How much is a protective suit here?”

“5,000 for a new set-boots, mask, and helmet. A second-hand set is 1,800,” Taylor replied.

Reina clicked her tongue. The new ones were way too expensive-much pricier than at the base.

Forget it. She decided to buy two second-hand suits for Chloe and Gerard. After all, they had saved her. “I’ll take two second-hand

ones.”

“Sure.” Taylor was happy to make more sales. He quickly brought two protective suits, each packed in a small box.

Reina opened them and checked everything. Nothing was missing. Then she asked, “Do you sell energy rifles? Small ones.”

Taylor shook his head. “Only base mercenaries can get those. We don’t have them here.”

Seeing Reina frown, he whispered, “Energy flamethrowers are pretty good, too. You should try one. The power isn’t worse than an energy rifle.”

They just used a lot of energy and money, but Taylor didn’t say that. She’d find out once she used it.

Reina’s eyes lit up. “How much is a flamethrower?”

Outside was full of bugs and crazed mutant beasts. Having a flamethrower wouldn’t be bad. She also wanted to go back to the wilderness again.

“The small one is 9,900 points. It comes with one low-grade energy block. You can use it for about half an hour.”

He continued, “The mid-sized one is 13,800. It also comes with one low-grade energy block, but it can only last for 10 minutes-”

“Wait,” Reina interrupted. When she heard “energy block,” something clicked in her mind. She remembered the energy crystals she had harvested from the thistles. She asked quickly, “Can I see the energy block?”

The staff member handed her a black stone about the size of an egg. “This is it.”

Reina picked it up. It felt heavy, like some kind of ore.

She tried using her ability. Suddenly, a prompt popped up in front of her: “Harvest?”

Reina jumped and quickly put the energy block down. She secretly glanced at Taylor.

Taylor didn’t notice anything and kept looking at her, a big customer, expectantly.

She forced herself to stay calm and asked casually, “How much if I buy these separately?”

“It’s 3,500 points,” Taylor said.

“That expensive? Any discount if I buy in bulk? How about 3,000?” Reina played with the black stone, trying to haggle.

“I can’t do that. The camp set the price for energy blocks. Not my call.”
