Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 102

Today, though, Slater was in no mood for conversation. He left in a rush, barely sparing Carla a word.

He hadn't managed to get the shares back for now, but he'd have to find another way to show Seren he was truly sorry.

Behind him, Carla watched Slater's retreating figure, a storm of emotion swirling in her eyes.

Of her two older brothers, Slater was the one she feared most.

Slater was petty, vindictive, and never forgot a slight. Being around him was like walking on eggshells—one misstep and you'd pay for it.

But as long as she went along with whatever he wanted, kept him happy, things were fine.

In fact, Slater had always doted on her. No matter what happened or who was at fault, Slater would always take her side, without hesitation.

But now, even Slater's attitude toward her was shifting.

A vague sense of unease crept into Carla's heart.

She shook her head, trying to banish her chaotic thoughts.

When she looked up, she saw Swain walking toward her from the other end of the hall, arms loaded with a stack of things.

Carla assumed he was coming to apologize for snapping at her a few days ago, and she felt a flicker of satisfaction.

But as Swain drew closer, her face fell.

He was holding a pile of award certificates—her award certificates.

Swain stopped in front of her and spoke in his usual unhurried tone. "Carla, my bookshelf's getting a bit crowded these days. There's no room for these certificates, so you'll have to find somewhere to keep them yourself."

His expression was gentle, his voice as calm and pleasant as always.

But Carla felt as if she'd been plunged into an icy lake.

She'd wanted to put the certificates away before, but Swain had stopped her. He'd told her, with great sincerity, that awards should be displayed for everyone to see—that hiding them away would be such a waste. He'd even had a glass case made just to showcase them. Every time the Bradleys had guests, Swain would make a point of showing them off, pride shining in his eyes.

And now he'd taken them out of the display case and was giving them all back to her.
