Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 101

With five percent of Rutledge Group's shares in her grasp and Seren finally out of the Bradley family for good, Carla was in a fantastic mood.

She was humming to herself when a knock sounded at her door.

Opening it, she found Slater standing outside.

"Hey, what's up?" she asked, beaming at her older brother.

Slater, however, felt an odd twinge of irritation. How could Carla be so cheerful when Seren had just been cut out of their family? But the thought vanished as quickly as it came. Carla had always been carefree and oblivious, never one to get bogged down in complicated feelings. He supposed it made sense.

He got right to the point. "Carla, I need you to give those five percent shares of Rutledge Group back to Seren."

Usually, it was Slater who asked Seren for favors on Carla's behalf. She never imagined the day would come when her brother would be asking her to return something to Seren instead.

Her good mood faded, as if someone had thrown a bucket of cold water over her.

For a moment, she just stared at him, dumbstruck, before blurting out, "Why?"

Did she really need to ask?

Slater looked at her, taking in her blank expression, and felt a flash of annoyance. He'd always thought of Carla as kind-hearted and clever, that she'd immediately understand where he was coming from and agree without hesitation. But here she was, slow on the uptake, asking him why.

His tone sharpened, his irritation showing. "Why? Because those shares were meant for Seren in the first place. Old Mr. Rutledge left them to her. They were always hers. Isn't it obvious you should give them back?"
