Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 115

After finishing his call with his assistant, Sheridan waited, but there was no immediate response. In a city as sprawling as Riverbend, tracking down one person was like looking for a needle in a haystack—it wouldn't be easy. And there was always the chance that Seren wasn't even in Riverbend. Still, as long as she was somewhere in Veridia, it was only a matter of time before he found her.

Now that he'd resolved to win Seren back, Sheridan realized there were other things he needed to sort out before that happened.

He climbed the stairs and knocked on Willa's bedroom door.

It swung open almost instantly.

A wave of perfume—sweet but undercut by the sharp tang of alcohol—washed over him. Sheridan wrinkled his nose, just barely.

Willa appeared in the doorway, framed by the golden light behind her. She wore a black satin slip, cut daringly low, the delicate lace tracing the outline of her pale, youthful skin. A quick glance downward revealed more than enough of her curves, the hem of her nightdress just skimming her thighs, her long bare legs shifting in the lamplight.

It was seductive. Deliberate.

Sheridan's brow furrowed. For some reason, Willa's display struck him as garish, almost cheap.

He'd always been something of a playboy, wasting time in clubs and exclusive lounges with his friends. He'd seen plenty of women who dressed and acted like this—hostesses who wore their confidence like war paint, ready to charm for a price. They were attractive, even glamorous, but the easy availability made Sheridan feel nothing but distaste.

Now, for one brief moment, Willa reminded him of those women—bold, artificial, and a little desperate.

His thoughts drifted, unbidden, to Seren. Seren, whose clothes always fit just right, who moved with an unassuming grace. Her eyes were clear, innocent, as if she'd only just stepped into the world.

Willa had been staying at The Golden Age these last few days, but Sheridan made a point of leaving early and coming home late, barely spending a minute in the house if he could help it. She'd had no chance to get close to him.

Tonight, though, she'd made sure to drink herself into a gentle haze, setting the stage in her mind—she'd be bold, seize the moment, and finally get what she wanted from Sheridan.
