Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 138

She just couldn't admit it—her pride wouldn't allow her to lose face in front of him.

Willa immediately felt like she'd snatched back the upper hand; her eyes sparkled with barely concealed triumph as she looked straight at Seren.

No matter how hard Seren tried to defend herself, what did it matter? Sheridan would always take Willa's side.

After all, she'd grown up with Sheridan, childhood friends with years of shared memories. Seren had only been in his life for three short years—how could that possibly compare?

In Sheridan's eyes, Willa's place in his heart had to be more important than Seren's. She was sure of it.

Seren stood tall, her spine straight, and shot Sheridan a look of cold disdain.

"So what—you think I'll apologize just because you tell me to? Who do you think you are? I never even touched her. Why should I apologize?"

Back then, whenever Sheridan asked her to do something, she would do it—no questions asked.

For those three years, she genuinely wanted to make things work with him. That's why she revolved her whole world around him.

But now? She was done. She'd let go of Sheridan the day she walked out of The Golden Age.

From that moment on, he was nothing to her.

Sheridan's face turned ashen.

He heard the contempt in Seren's words, clear as day. Suddenly, he remembered: when she used to orbit around him, he'd spoken to her in exactly this tone.

Once, he'd looked down on Seren. Now, the tables had turned—she looked down on him.

Standing on the other side now, he finally understood just how much words like that could cut.

Seren's gaze shifted to Willa. After all, Willa was the reason she'd come here today. She hadn't even said what she needed to say yet.

"Willa, I've got to say, your shamelessness is impressive. When Sheridan was in that car accident and couldn't walk, you disappeared faster than anyone. Now that he's back on his feet, you just waltz right back in like nothing happened.

You want him? He's all yours—I don't want him anymore. But then you still play dirty, going behind my back. Is it because you're just not good enough? Even when I'm not competing, you're still losing, so you take it out on me instead?"

She leaned in, her voice icy. "Let me warn you—next time you try to mess with me, it won't just be a slap across the face."

A moment ago, she'd flat-out denied hitting Willa, just to get under her skin. Seren had always been the type to own up to her actions. Now that she'd had her fun, she didn't mind admitting it, plain and simple.

Willa had picked a fight first, so if Seren had slapped her, she had every right.

On the outside, Willa looked heartbreakingly fragile, eyes brimming with unshed tears.

Inside, though, she was burning with humiliation and rage, wishing she could claw the words right out of Seren's mouth.

Because everything Seren said hit right where it hurt most.

This whole time, Seren had done nothing at all, and yet Sheridan still revolved around her.
