Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 171

After dinner, Lennon suggested they go for a walk to help digest the food, and Seren readily agreed.

The glow of the streetlights cast a hazy halo over the empty path. Most of the trees had already shed their leaves, and the distant lights flickered faintly, making the whole scene feel a little desolate and quiet.

As they reached a set of steps, Lennon's broad, warm hand enveloped hers. Seren squeezed his hand in return, their fingers lacing together.

Autumn in Seaside City brought early nights, and after dark, the wind always carried a sharp, bone-deep chill. Yet Seren's heart felt warm.

Occasionally, someone would walk past them, and Seren's instinct was to let go of his hand.

Lennon leaned down and whispered in her ear, "Is Mrs. Crestwell thinking about letting go of my hand?"

Caught out, Seren paused just a fraction.

Feeling a little exposed, she considered it—but in the end, she kept holding on.

Seren had never been good at lying. She nodded honestly. "I'm just not used to holding hands in public. It feels a bit odd."

"Whenever you let go of my hand around others, I can't help but feel like my wife doesn't quite approve of me," Lennon replied, his voice teasing but soft.

Seren hurried to reassure him. "That's not true at all."

She had always thought Lennon was a wonderful husband—no one could convince her otherwise.

By now, the passerby had moved on, though not without sneaking a glance back at the striking couple holding hands. Scenes like that were always pleasant to look at.

Seren glanced down at their intertwined fingers.

Suddenly, she realized holding Lennon's hand in public wasn't as hard to accept as she'd imagined.

Halfway along the path, Seren's phone rang. The caller ID read: Aunt Lindy.

Since she could remember, Seren had never had grandparents, and her father's side of the family only included this one aunt—Lindy Bradley.

Lindy lived in Seaside City too, but was usually busy with her own work. She only visited The Mountain Retreat during major holidays.

Seren remembered Lindy as a sensible woman. Whenever Zena scolded her, Lindy was the one to quietly offer comfort.
