"Was that a personal attack?" Michael shot back.
"Just learn from me," Lennon said with a smug look. "I made my move, and now I have a wife."
Michael pursed his lips, feeling thoroughly insulted. Still, he had to admit that, in his own way, he had made a move too.
Ignoring Michael, Lennon scrolled through his contacts, found "My Wife," and hit dial.
Seren had just showered and slipped into bed when the phone rang.
"Mrs. Crestwell, getting ready for sleep?"
A moment ago, the room had felt empty without Lennon. Now, the sound of his deep, gentle voice filled the silence, bringing an immediate sense of peace. "Just about to," she answered softly.
"Are the doors and windows locked?" he asked.
"Yes, they're locked. Don't worry, I can take care of myself when I'm alone." Seren had basic safety awareness, but in Lennon's eyes, she would always be a child in need of his constant, meticulous care. She decided to change the subject, suddenly curious about Nadine Brewer and Michael. "Lennon, can I ask you something?"
"Of course, Mrs. Crestwell." Lennon was still a little hung up on the formal address, his mind racing for a way to finally hear her call him by his name, or better yet, ‘husband.'
"Do you get the feeling that Nadine likes Michael?"
