"Edwin, are you insane?" she screamed into the phone. "You posted those photos online?"

He chuckled softly. "Insane? Sweetheart, think of it as a gift. Weren't you always begging me to make our relationship public? Well, your wish has been granted."

"I already told you, the fake files had nothing to do with me!" Carla retorted, choking on her rage.

"Hmm? What does this have to do with the files, darling? This is just a token of my affection for you."

"Stop playing dumb!" she shrieked. "Is this what you want? Mutually assured destruction?"

Edwin laughed. "You've got it wrong, my love. There's no mutual destruction here. You're the only one who's going to get hurt. A man in my position is expected to have a few flings. It adds to the mystique, don't you think?"

He knew perfectly well that a scandal like this would only tarnish Carla's reputation and the Rutledge Group's image. For him, it was a minor inconvenience at worst.
