Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 246

Before she could speak, Zena stood up and slapped her hard across the face. "You traitorous little brat!" she seethed. "You could have slept with anyone, but it had to be Edwin Montgomery? Do you have any idea what his family is planning?"

Zena was beyond furious. If it had been any other man, she might have been able to contain her anger. But the Montgomery family was their sworn enemy.

Carla clutched her cheek, her face ashen. The photos were out there; there was nothing she could say.

Zena stared at her, her chest heaving with rage. But she knew that hitting and yelling wouldn't solve anything. "Get outside," she commanded, her voice cold. "Kneel by the door and think about what you've done. You are not to come back inside until I say so."

The words struck Carla like a physical blow. Her hands, which had been hanging limply at her sides, clenched into fists, then relaxed in defeat. She lowered her head and walked out without a word. If she wanted to survive in this family, she had to submit. Unlike Seren, she had no other options.

A wave of exhaustion washed over Zena. She had always been so proud of Carla, her perfect creation. Now, that creation had brought her nothing but public shame. The scandal with Seren had been confined to their social circle. This was a national disgrace.

Zena considered disowning Carla, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. She had invested too much time, money, and energy into her. To abandon her now would be to accept a total loss.

Taking a deep breath, Zena called Thurman. He didn't answer. She tried again, and again, until he finally picked up, his voice thick with sleep. "Zena? What is it?" He was in Meridia for a business deal, and the news hadn't yet reached him.

Hearing his groggy voice while her world was falling apart made Zena snap. "The family is in crisis, and you're sleeping?!" she yelled.
