Lennon didn't answer right away. Instead, he asked, "How many days have I been gone?"
"Today is the second day," she answered without hesitation. She had been counting.
A soft chuckle came through the phone. "You've been keeping track?"
"Of course. I count every day."
"I miss you, Mrs. Crestwell," he said suddenly.
Seren didn't respond. She missed him, too. It was strange; from the moment he left, an ache had settled in her chest.
After a few seconds of silence, Lennon spoke again. "When I get back, you can hug me."
