Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 253

Sheridan was in a meeting when his phone rang. He was stunned to hear that Willa was pregnant and that Janie had brought her to his family's doorstep.

He had slept with her, yes, but only twice. And he had watched her take the morning-after pill both times. The pill was over ninety-eight percent effective. Besides, he hadn't had any contact with her recently, ignoring all her calls and messages.

Stepping out of the conference room, he carefully explained to Diana, "I was drunk that night. Willa came over, slipped something into my drink, and seduced me. That's how we ended up in bed. The first thing I did when I woke up was make her take the morning-after pill. I watched her swallow it."

The implication was clear: Willa had drugged him as part of a deliberate scheme to trap him. He had taken all the necessary precautions afterward. The child she was carrying might not even be his.

Hearing Sheridan's explanation, Diana's anger subsided. It was all a premeditated plot by that girl. Her son had been manipulated. And even if the child was his, so what? If every woman who got pregnant with a Powers baby could just waltz into the family, she wouldn't have been Mrs. Powers for long.

After a moment's thought, Diana asked, "Do you want to marry her?"

"I will not marry her," Sheridan replied without hesitation. "Mom, you said it yourself—a woman like her has no place in our family. Besides, I don't like her. I'm in love with someone else."

Diana paused. "The person you love… is it Seren Bradley?"

"Yes." Even knowing that Seren was about to get married, Sheridan hadn't given up. If she got married, he could wait for her to get divorced. He just didn't dare say that part out loud.

After hanging up with Sheridan, Diana called Janie back.

After laying out the facts, she said in a mild tone, "Three years ago, when our Sheridan was paralyzed in that car accident, your Willa was his girlfriend. I messaged her, asking her to take care of him, but she refused and ran off to Meridia instead. Now that Sheridan's legs have healed, she thinks she can use some cheap trick to get pregnant and marry him? Impossible."

"She abandoned him three years ago; there's no coming back from that. Sheridan doesn't have her in his heart anymore. You can't force love, can you, Mrs. Sullivan?"

Janie had the phone on speaker, and Willa, standing beside her, turned pale as she heard Diana's words. Janie's own face darkened. One look at Willa was enough to confirm that what Diana was saying was true.
