Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 255

Lennon Crestwell had slept in until noon before a call summoned him away. He left in a hurry, and not long after, Hilda arrived.

After lunch and a short rest, Seren went to her art studio. She lost track of time, completely absorbed in her work, and when she finally emerged, dusk was settling over the city.

She glanced at her phone instinctively. No new messages. Lennon must be really busy today.

Realizing it had been a while since she'd called Old Mr. Rutledge, she dialed the number for the manor. The phone was answered almost immediately, but it was a man's deep, magnetic voice that came through the line. "Hello?"

The voice was familiar.

Seren checked her phone screen to make sure she hadn't misdialed. "Lennon?" she asked, confused. "Why are you at the manor?"

Lennon chuckled. "Just fulfilling my duties as a grandson-in-law. Making sure the neighbors get a good look at me so you can't run off and leave me."

Seren's face grew warm. "Oh," was all she could manage.

Lennon suddenly lowered his voice. "Come pick me up at the manor in thirty minutes. Then give me a call. That way, I can politely decline dinner here and have a meal with Mrs. Crestwell instead."

He added a special instruction, "Don't come inside, just wait at the gate. Otherwise, neither of us will be able to get away."

She didn't dwell on it. Grabbing her car keys from a drawer, she headed to the garage and drove off.

Thirty minutes later, she pulled up to the gates of Rutledge Manor and called Lennon.

After the call, she stared out the window, lost in thought. The sky was darkening, the silhouettes of the trees stark against the twilight. The sun had nearly dipped below the horizon, leaving only a blush of crimson light in its wake. This was the north, unlike the year-round mildness of Riverbend City. Seaside City had four distinct seasons, and autumn brought with it a pervasive melancholy. The sycamore trees in the courtyard were shedding their leaves, which drifted slowly to the ground, casting a somber mood over everything.

A few minutes later, a tall, slender figure emerged from the ornate gatehouse.

Seren's gaze was drawn to him. The evening wind was crisp, and the low temperature had condensed the air into a fine mist. He strode forward, his handsome features illuminated by the dim twilight, looking as poised and handsome as a clear breeze under a bright moon.
