Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 277

With Susan now in charge of Rutledge Group, she had a mountain of work ahead of her. The company was a mess, and cleaning it up would be a long and tedious process. The task of driving Old Mr. Rutledge back to the family estate naturally fell to Seren.

As she helped him down the stairs, Seren couldn't hold back her question any longer. "Grandpa, was it Lennon who told you about me using the 5% shares to cut ties, and about everything else that's been happening at the company?"

She knew the news couldn't have come from Susan or Nadine; they were both too worried about upsetting him. The only other person who knew was Lennon. She recalled his sudden visit to Rutledge Manor two days ago and felt certain he was involved.

Old Mr. Rutledge chuckled. "Lennon didn't have to tell me everything. You all tried to hide it, but I may be old, but I'm not senile or deaf. I don't live in a cave, cut off from the world. I knew what was going on. I was worried sick, but I couldn't figure out the best way to handle it. It was Lennon who came to me with a plan. He spent half a day rallying all the old shareholders. Today's unanimous vote was largely his doing."

He took Seren's hand and patted it gently. "Seeing him protect you like this, Grandpa is very relieved."

Old Mr. Rutledge could see it clearly: Lennon had done all of this to defend Seren's honor.

Seren was silent, but a warmth spread through her chest. To be so cherished and protected was a wonderful feeling.

After dropping her grandfather off, she stepped outside and sent a message to Lennon.

[Thank you for standing up for me, Mr. Crestwell.]

He replied almost instantly.

[A husband should stand up for his wife. Otherwise, what's the point of you marrying me?]

[Are you at the estate now?]

[Yes! I'm staying for lunch to spend some more time with Grandpa.]

Seren had almost forgotten she'd added Quentin on WhatsApp. But it didn't matter if he saw it.

Nadine's message came through next.

[Tsk, tsk, showing off your love at lunchtime. Things are really heating up between you and Lennon!]

[Of course.]

[You know, you're always posting about him now. You never used to do that. You used to say that stuff was for silly little girls. I guess love really does make you blind.]

Seren thought back. In her three years with Sheridan, she had never once posted anything about him. She had never felt the desire to share their relationship with the world, because deep down, it had never been something that brought her joy.
