Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 278

But now, being with Lennon was a source of pure happiness.

Maybe, she thought, this is what love feels like.

Before she could dwell on it, a new notification popped up. Lennon had liked her post and left a comment.

[Lennon: Another day of Mr. Crestwell loving Mrs. Crestwell.]

Seren's eyes crinkled into a smile.

After lunch, Old Mr. Rutledge said he wanted to visit his late wife's grave. Seren went with him.

Every time they came, her grandfather insisted on tending to the headstone himself, refusing any help. Seren stood quietly by, watching as he cleaned the marble, murmuring to his wife the whole time. He told her about the family's recent troubles and reminded her to take care of herself. He spoke for a very long time.

In Seren's memory, her grandfather was a man of few words. Like most men of his generation, he was reserved with his emotions, and his love for her had always been quiet and understated—the secret deposits into her bank account when she was in Riverbend City, the way he brought out his most prized tea set when the Crestwell family came to propose.

But here, before his wife's grave, this quiet, reserved man spoke for over an hour. This, Seren thought, must be what true love looks like. The thought that she and Lennon might one day grow old together like this filled her with a quiet joy.

On the drive back to Rutledge Manor, Seren kept glancing at her phone. The screen remained dark. She checked to make sure she had a signal, thinking it might be broken. But it was working fine; there were simply no new messages. Lennon usually messaged her around this time, and she was surprised to find how much she missed it.

She realized then that she was no longer shy or hesitant in her interactions with him. She could tell him, openly and without embarrassment, that she missed him.

[Just finishing up a few things. Almost done.]

[Should I come pick you up?]

[Okay. My assistant already left, and I didn't drive today.]

Lennon's expression softened as he read her messages, a smile playing on his lips. His Mrs. Crestwell was finally learning to meet him halfway.
