Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 283

The night was deep and still, the mountains silent. The temperature had dropped so low that a thin sheet of ice had formed on the lake's surface. The lamps along the shore cast shimmering reflections that scattered gently across the ice.

They walked hand in hand along the water's edge, their fingers intertwined.

On the other side of the lake, nestled in a grove of trees, stood a pavilion built over the water. A plaque above the entrance read "The Frostgarde" in elegant script. The main doors were open.

Inside, the wooden floors were immaculate. Delicate winter orchids with long, slender leaves graced a flower stand. In the center of the room, a pristine roll of parchment lay on a felt-covered desk, held down by a jade paperweight next to a calligraphy set.

The pavilion was perfectly situated in a spot sheltered from the wind, offering a breathtaking view of the lake and mountains without having to step outside. A brazier in the corner radiated a gentle warmth, chasing away the biting cold.

"It's freezing out here," Seren said, looking up at the tall figure beside her. "Lennon Crestwell, why don't we wait in here?"

Sharing a scarf was fine when they were walking side by side, but it was a bit awkward indoors.

Lennon unwound the scarf from his neck and gently wrapped it around hers. "Of course," he replied, his voice soft. "Whatever Mrs. Crestwell wants."

Seren glanced at her phone. It was nearly midnight, and the snow she had been waiting for had yet to arrive.

Spotting a lounge chair under the eaves, she settled into it, feeling a comfortable laziness wash over her. The night was profoundly dark; the mountains were shrouded in mist, and the sky above was a starless, moonless gray, like a curtain drawn after the final act of a play.

As she lay there, her eyelids grew heavy. She hadn't felt tired while walking, but now, a deep drowsiness crept out from some hidden corner and made itself known.

Just as her eyes were about to flutter shut, she felt something cold and delicate land on the tip of her nose, melting into a droplet of water before she could fully register it.

Lennon set the brush down and looked up to see Seren running toward him, her smile bright and clear. She stopped in front of him.

His usually calm and cool eyes now sparkled with a hint of a smile. "What is it, Mrs. Crestwell?"

Seren didn't answer his question, asking one of her own instead. "Did you write that for me?"

Lennon's eyes were gentle. "Seeing you just now, this phrase came to mind, so I wrote it down. If you like it, Mrs. Crestwell, then it's yours."

"Okay." Seren's eyes curved into crescents, her heart filled with an inexplicable joy. Only then did she answer his earlier question. "Lennon, it's snowing!"

The snow they had waited for all evening had finally fallen. In the few minutes it took for them to step outside together, the light flurries had turned into a heavy snowfall, and a thick blanket of white already covered the ground.
