Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 287

Meanwhile, Carla woke up in a hotel bed with a pounding hangover. She rubbed her temples and fumbled under the pillow for her phone. Unlocking it, she saw a string of unread messages and missed calls from Zena. With a flick of her thumb, she deleted them all.

Since leaving the Bradley family, she felt like she could finally breathe. There was no way she was going back.

She scrolled through her call log. Aside from the incessant calls from her family, one name was conspicuously absent: Edwin Montgomery.

After they had gotten their marriage license at city hall yesterday morning, he had set her up in this hotel and then vanished. He hadn't called, and he hadn't come by. Carla had spent the entire day shopping and the night partying at a club, so she hadn't given it much thought. But now, in the empty, silent room with not even a maid to wait on her, she found herself thinking of him.

She dialed his number.

When he answered, she didn't wait for him to speak. "Edwin," she cooed, her voice dripping with sweetness. "You said you'd take me to Elysian Bay as soon as the staff had it ready. It's been a whole day. Where are you?"

Yesterday, Rutledge Group had swiftly replaced Zena as chairperson and launched a PR campaign that successfully stabilized the company. Ten years of plotting had gone up in smoke. Edwin was furious, frustrated, and utterly helpless. With Carla out of sight for a day, he had nearly forgotten he'd even married her.

Now, hearing her voice, a smirk played on his lips. "Don't be impatient, baby. I'll send someone to pick you up shortly."

Carla walked through the door. Several maids moved about the house, but they all ignored her, acting as if she were invisible. It was clear their behavior reflected their master's attitude. Edwin was deliberately slighting her, trying to push her into leaving on her own accord.

Carla was furious, but she kept her expression neutral. She wouldn't give him the satisfaction. To succeed, one had to know when to bow their head.

Once she had solidified her position as Mrs. Montgomery, she would see who dared to treat her with such disrespect.
