Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 288

Carla stopped one of the maids, her face a mask of innocence. "Excuse me," she asked sweetly, "where can I find Mr. Montgomery?"

The maid shot her a sideways glance. "The master is in his study," she said coolly. "Straight down the hall, last door on the right."

"Thank you so much," Carla replied with a beaming smile.

The maid walked away without another word.

Carla followed the hallway to the study. As she raised her hand to knock, she heard noises from within—sounds that would make anyone blush. The room was well soundproofed, but the faint moans were unmistakable.

Carla froze, her face turning pale. She lowered her hand, her heart pounding with a furious rage, but she forced herself to remain calm. She wasn't a fool. She knew Edwin was doing this to provoke her. If she burst in, angry and hysterical, she would be playing right into his hands. He had used this tactic before, and she wouldn't fall for it a second time. Fool me once, shame on you.

Steeling herself, Carla decided to wait outside the door.

When the sounds finally subsided, she knocked.

The door swung open. It was Edwin. His shirt was unbuttoned, his tie loosened, and his trousers were slung low on his hips, unbelted. His narrow eyes were narrowed in a look of pure, decadent amusement.

Seeing Carla still waiting, she let out a scornful laugh. "Well, Mrs. Montgomery certainly has a thick skin. To stand there and watch your husband with another woman without shedding a tear. I bet if he brought home a mistress, you'd be the one making her tea." Her tone was dripping with sarcasm.

Carla's temper flared, but she kept her expression composed. She glanced at the woman. "You're just a toy for his amusement. Who do you think you are to taunt me?"

The woman's smile was serene. "Aren't we all? Aside from your shiny new title, you're just a tool, same as me."

Her words were sharp, each one a dagger to the heart. The calm facade on Carla's face finally began to crack.
