Seren didn't ask any questions. She simply sent her WhatsApp contact info to Seren—efficient, no fuss.
They entered the Brewer family home.
It was still too early for lunch, so everyone gathered in the living room.
Hollis, much like Old Mr. Rutledge, was a dedicated tea enthusiast. The living room had a sunlit space set up exclusively for afternoon tea, complete with delicate porcelain cups and an inviting table.
Slater and Carla walked in first, taking seats by the tea table.
Seren and Lennon followed, but Seren kept her gaze fixed ahead, passing right by Slater and Carla without so much as a glance, choosing a spot deliberately distant from them.
She sat by the window.
Half-drawn oak shades filtered the sunlight, and the gentle sound of a stream drifting in from outside mingled with the occasional breeze, casting wavering shadows on the window frame. The entire room radiated quiet elegance.
Seren felt herself relax, tension melting from her shoulders.
She'd always loved visiting the Brewer family. Every corner of their home was tastefully arranged, every step a small delight, creating an atmosphere that put her at ease.
Hollis took the host's seat at the head of the table, expertly preparing tea for everyone. His movements were practiced, unhurried.
Slater, seated close to the host, easily slipped into conversation. Ever the charmer, he had a knack for adapting to any social situation—especially in business. Soon, he and Hollis were deep in lively conversation, laughter and warm smiles flowing easily between them.
Susan, the lady of the house, didn't sit down. She bustled from kitchen to living room, carrying fruit platters and setting out snacks, barely stopping to catch her breath.
Carla's smile was bright and polished, but her eyes betrayed her irritation.
She hated coming to the Brewer house. The Brewers, in her mind, were old-fashioned and hopelessly pretentious, always acting as though they were above everyone else, weighed down by tradition and etiquette.
And, worst of all, they doted on Seren.
Just look at now.
Susan had brought out a plate of lychees and mangoes—Seren's favorites. The snacks were delicate floral jellies, which just happened to be Seren's preferred treat.
The Brewers always seemed to revolve around Seren, anticipating her every need.
