Watching You Burn In Regret novel Chapter 89

Carla sat anxiously, barely able to stay still as she waited for Zena. Now, finally, she saw her walk in.

The moment Attorney Golden entered behind Zena, Carla's eyes sparkled with barely concealed triumph.

At last, her long-coveted 5% stake in Rutledge Group was finally hers.

Slater had been watching the scene unfold, his expression amused at Zena's thunderous mood as she stormed inside. But when he saw Attorney Golden—Rutledge Group's legal counsel—trailing behind, a cold sense of foreboding washed over him.

He'd assumed Zena would simply scold Seren a couple of times and move on, like she always did. But the presence of the company's attorney told him things were about to get a lot more serious.

As the instigator who'd set this whole mess in motion, Slater suddenly felt a pang of guilt and anxiety rise in his chest.

Seren, meanwhile, seemed utterly unbothered. Whatever was coming, she was ready to face it.

Zena's eyes blazed as she swept her gaze across the room, finally settling on Seren. She strode over, tapped sharply on the side table next to Seren, and spoke coldly, her tone like a slap:

"Come with me. I have something to say to you in private."

Seeing Zena's fury, Hollis set down his teacup and instinctively wanted to intervene on Seren's behalf. But this was a Bradley family matter; it wasn't his place to interfere. Instead, he quietly texted Susan, urging her to come to the parlor as soon as possible.

Lennon frowned, his usually composed face betraying a rare trace of displeasure, but in the end he stayed silent.

Nadine, knowing Seren was prepared for this confrontation, also remained quiet. She couldn't help Seren directly, but she wasn't about to make things harder for her either. Instead, she watched Zena with cold indifference. In her eyes, Zena's treatment of Seren was nothing like that of a mother to her daughter—instead, it was more like a petty, nitpicking boss deliberately picking a fight.

Seren met Zena's glare with unwavering calm. "Whatever you have to say, you can say it here."

Zena snorted. "I had hoped to keep the family's dirty laundry private, to spare you some dignity in front of others. But since you won't accept that grace…"

No respect for your elders. Never learning from your mistakes. Attitude as foul as ever.

How did I end up with a daughter like this?

Zena had been furious ever since she'd learned that Seren, with Lennon in tow, had gone to visit the Brewer family unannounced. Now, faced with Seren's detached, indifferent gaze, her anger threatened to boil over. She had to take a deep breath to force herself back into her usual icy composure.

Then, her voice turned even colder as she began to enumerate Seren's supposed crimes, as if reading out charges in a courtroom.
