Stephen strode out as quickly as he could. When he passed by the garden, he could feel the gazes of the guests on him as they whispered among themselves.
His brow furrowed, and he had the inexplicable feeling that things had spiraled out of his control.
With that, he tossed aside all pretense of appearing calm and quickened his pace, wishing that he could just fly to the Wendell residence.
The dark expression on his face had frightened Nathan so badly that he didn't even dare breathe too loudly. He quickly started the engine and sped off.
Along the way, Stephen kept trying to call Natania, but he kept receiving the mechanical message that said her phone was switched off.
When he tried contacting her on WhatsApp, the single tick on his sent message and his inability to reach her by phone left him frozen in disbelief. It seemed that Natania had blocked him!
"Just what on earth happened?" he wondered in his mind. His heart felt like it had jumped into his throat, and as the car sped toward the Wendell residence, restlessness clawed at him.
Since he couldn't get through to Natania, he decided to call her father, Albert. To his surprise, Albert's phone had also been switched off.
Stephen gnashed his teeth, his unease growing. Tightening his grip on his phone, he did his best to force himself to calm down.
"Tania, just where are you?" he thought.
The car had barely screeched to a halt in front of the Wendell residence's gates when Stephen got out of the car and strode over.
Banging on the gates, he yelled, "Is anyone there? Open the gates!"
When the housekeepers saw that it was Stephen, a hint of disdain flickered in their eyes. "Mr. Fost, why have you decided to grace us with your presence instead of celebrating your biological son's birthday? Ms. Natania has nothing to do with you anymore!"
Stephen's head was pounding, and even his vision was beginning to blur. He snapped, "What did you say? Who told you he's my biological son? Who said that?"
He had a sinking feeling that what he had feared most had finally come true. Nonetheless, he still wanted to try his luck by denying everything.
"Mr. Fost, you decided to have your fun outside and even sired a child already. Now you're trying to play innocent?"
"Ms. Natania must have been blind to have fallen for a man like you!"
"Get lost! The Wendell family doesn't welcome you. There aren't any ties between you and Ms. Natania now!"
Stephen hadn't expected the housekeepers to be so hostile toward him. They absolutely refused to let him in, and after cursing at him, they refused to say another word.
