What We Had Was Never Real novel Chapter 13

"This isn't possible! I never signed any divorce agreement! This is a fake. It must be!" Stephen exclaimed.

He abruptly raised his voice several octaves higher. He refused to believe what he was seeing, and he absolutely couldn't accept the reality that Natania wanted to divorce him.

Yet, there was no denying that it was indeed his signature on the divorce agreement.

He racked his brain trying to recall the events of the past three days. Suddenly, a memory rose in his mind.

Three days ago, he had set aside all his work to stay at home and spend time with Rosalie and Andrew. He eventually got drunk, and that was when Rosalie brought him a document to sign.

He hadn't thought much of it at the time, simply assuming that Nathan had asked Rosalie to help pass on the document. Thus, he had taken and signed it.

Stephen's face instantly paled. "Could it be that what I signed back then wasn't some unimportant document, but…"

He didn't dare finish that thought. Snapping his head around to look at Natha, who was behind him, he asked, "Three days ago, at around 10:00 pm, did you deliver a document to Rosalie for me to sign?"

A puzzled look crossed Nathan's face as he shook his head. "Mr. Fost, did you forget what you told me that day? You said you wanted to make it up to Mr. Andrew and asked me to clear out your schedule for the whole day.

"You even specifically mentioned that unless it had something to do with Mr. Andrew, I was not to disturb you. Why, then, would I send a document over?"

The moment those words rang out, Stephen's heart dropped to his stomach.

It seemed that Rosalie had tricked him! He had trusted her too much, leading him to fall right into her trap and sign the divorce agreement. At this realization, a stab of pain shot through his heart as a suffocating feeling enveloped him.

He gripped the divorce papers so hard that they crumpled in his hands. His eyes turned bloodshot, and he forced down the rage burning in him as he said, "Albert, I refuse to acknowledge this divorce agreement!"

Albert scoffed at his words. "Then what about this? Do you refuse to acknowledge this, too?"

The butler took out another document from the folder and passed it to Stephen.

Stephen accepted it with trembling fingers. After glancing at it, he stumbled back a few steps, thunderstruck.
