At Drocver, the Jamieson residence was as lively as usual.
Brooklyn, worried that Alphonse and Bethany would feel very lonely, had called Yuliana to return early to keep them company during the holiday season.
When Cecilia and her family arrived, Alphonse and Bethany were overjoyed.
The four children greeted Alphonse and Bethany, who gave them cash and presents for Christmas.
Before long, the heap of presents grew so tall that the children could barely carry them.
When Cecilia noticed it, she asked, "Grandpa, Grandma, why did you buy so many gifts?"
"We're happy that the kids came over. Every day before they arrived, whenever we saw something nice or fun, we'd buy and keep it for them," Bethany replied.
At that, Cecilia said no more. She let the four children stay by their great-grandparents' side, giving her and Nathaniel a chance to go out for a stroll and then meet Eric in the afternoon.

At Eric's house, Alan and Ines were handing him a pile of photos of young women. "Take a look."
Eric merely spared the photos a single glance before looking away. "Dad, Mom, didn't I tell you that I won't go on blind dates?"
"If you don't go on blind dates, how are you going to fall in love and get married?" Alan asked.
Exasperation flashed across Eric's face. "Can't I just not get married?"
"What nonsense are you saying? How can you not get married?" Ines quickly said. "Eric, you don't happen to like men, do you?"
That one sentence made both Eric's and Alan's faces turn grim.
Alan was utterly incredulous. "Don't frighten me. How can men be together? That goes against biology."
Eric raked a hand through his hair, defeated. "No, that's not it. I simply do not want to get married."
Truthfully, aside from Cecilia, he had no interest in any woman around him.
Perhaps because Cecilia was the person he met at the lowest point of his life, no one else could replace her.

Alan ruminated on it for a moment. "Maybe she's not exactly the kind of woman he thinks we'd approve of?"
"Maybe," Ines concurred.

She had long wanted to have a grandchild, but Eric wasn't cooperative, so she kept worrying that he might be attracted to men.
After grooming himself, Eric put on a mask and sunglasses and left the house.
Unbeknownst to him, his parents followed him right out.
Alan and Ines trailed Eric, their curiosity piqued.
Finally, Eric walked into an exquisitely decorated restaurant.
Alan and Ines got out of their car and entered through the restaurant's back door.
