Cecilia and Nathaniel arrived at the restaurant on time. While waiting for Eric, Nathaniel received a call and briefly stepped out.
Eric spotted her from afar and quickly walked toward her.
When he reached the table, he looked around and couldn't help but ask, "Didn't you say Mr. Rainsworth would also be here? Where is he?"
"Oh, he just stepped out to take a call," Cecilia replied.
Eric nodded and then sat down across from Cecilia.
At that time, he still hadn't realized that his parents were currently seated in the private room next door.
Alan and Ines were happy to see that the person he was meeting was a woman who was quite attractive.
"Well, would you look at that? Eric found himself a girlfriend ages ago, but he kept it from us," Alan remarked.
Ines was puzzled. "Does this woman look a little familiar to you? It feels like I've seen her somewhere before."
Eric and Cecilia had been involved in a scandal before, and it even made the news.
At that time, Ines had seen a picture of Cecilia's profile in the news.
"She does look a bit familiar, but maybe her looks are just pleasing to our eyes," Alan commented. He was quite satisfied with the potential daughter-in-law.
Since he had said so, Ines stopped wondering about it. The two of them eavesdropped next door, planning to be upfront with Eric when he returned and ask him to bring the woman home to meet them.
In the other private room, when Eric noticed Nathaniel still hadn't returned even after he had sat down, he couldn't resist teasing, "Ms. Smith, does Mr. Rainsworth not trust me? He didn't follow you when we met in private previously."
"Of course not." Cecilia smiled, fibbing. "I asked him to come along for lunch. Since we're married, it wouldn't be appropriate for me to meet you privately behind his back."
Upon hearing her response, Eric unconsciously tightened his grip around the glass.
Next door, Alan jumped to his feet. "She's married?" he blurted.
Ines' eyes were also filled with disbelief. "Did we hear that wrong?"

Accepting defeat, Cecilia took the menu and ordered a few signature dishes.
Eric then handed it back to the waiter. "Is it okay if we don't wait for Mr. Rainsworth before ordering?"
"It's fine; he's not that petty. Besides, I ordered things he likes too," Cecilia said.
"That's good," Eric replied.
The two of them conversed back and forth like ordinary friends.
But Eric's parents understood the situation clearly—their son was suffering from unrequited love.
"Instead of falling for an unmarried woman, he fell for a married one," Alan lamented.
Ines' heart ached, too, but she comforted her husband. "Don't overthink it. At least it proves that our son is 'normal'."
