"Mom, stop talking nonsense," Eric said, protecting Cecilia. "It's my own problem. It has nothing to do with her."
To Ines, Eric had always been obedient and sensible since childhood, except for the matter of marriage.
At the sight of him defending another woman, she became even more upset and couldn't help but vent her anger onto Cecilia.
"Your surname is Smith, isn't it?" Ines paused, her gaze sharp. "Does your husband know about your relationship with Eric?"
She then continued coldly, "You're married with children, and you look quite a bit older than Eric. You must be quite good at manipulating young men, right? If I tell your husband about this, what do you think he'll do?"
If the person in front of her weren't Eric's mother, Cecilia would have already unleashed a verbal assault.
"Mrs. Palmer, I have not manipulated your son. Please don't pin false accusations on me. Your son is over twenty years old. Doesn't he have a mind of his own?" Cecilia retorted, enunciating every word.
While listening to the argument between Cecilia and Ines, Eric understood that any possibility of him being together with Cecilia was completely gone.
"Mom, let's go." He pulled Ines, intending to leave.
Ines, however, refused to leave. Cecilia's words had struck a nerve in her, and it felt like she was being reprimanded by a younger person.
She looked coldly at Cecilia. "You really have a sharp tongue. But I've seen many fickle women like you. You're unwilling to give up your family, so you come to seduce Eric! Your husband must be inferior to Eric; otherwise, why would you be so shameless?"
"Who says I'm inferior to him?" A chillingly deep voice rang out from nearby. It wasn't loud, but it carried an unmistakable aura of authority.
Ines and the others looked toward the sound to see Nathaniel, wearing a sharp coat, walk into the private room.
Nathaniel had immediately rushed over after wrapping up his discussion with the client on the phone.

Those few sentences left Ines too ashamed to utter a single word.
Alan apologized, "I'm sorry. My wife is too worried about our son and spoke without thinking."
Eric also said to Ines, "Mom, you misunderstood. I was the one who fell for Ms. Smith. She has never led me on."
There was nothing Ines could say after hearing all that.
Holding her hands together, she looked at Cecilia. "I'm sorry; I misunderstood."
Cecilia's heart was already in turmoil, but she maintained a composed exterior. "It's fine. I'm glad that it's all cleared up."
