Alan's mouth twitched. Is this supposed to be good news?
"So, what do we do now?" Alan then asked.
He had come here hoping to meet their future daughter-in-law, only for it to turn into a complete misunderstanding.
Ines thought for a moment. "Since Eric likes married women, why don't we look for divorced ones for him?"
Alan's expression became even more incredulous. "You must be kidding."
Ines was quite open-minded. "In this day and age, being divorced isn't a big deal. Nothing else matters as long as Eric gets married quickly and lets us have a grandchild sooner."
Alan remained noncommittal, keeping silent.
Ines took his silence as agreement.
"Let's go. Since it was a misunderstanding, we should head back," Alan said, getting up.
Just then, he suddenly heard Eric next door say, "Ms. Smith, did you really remarry Mr. Rainsworth? Are you sure about it? Aren't you going to consider anyone else?"
Cecilia was slightly bewildered by his sudden question. "Why do you ask?"
"I mean, hypothetically. If you're worried about having no one to take care of the children, how about me?" Eric looked sincere.
Before Cecilia could react in shock, Alan, who was next door, could no longer sit still.
"You rascal, what on earth are you talking about?" Alan's hair was gray, and he looked even older now.
Ines also came over with a pained expression on her face. "Eric, you've disappointed us too much."
Cecilia, sitting across from Eric, was completely overwhelmed. She couldn't process what was happening before her.
Eric hadn't expected his parents to be here, let alone overhear everything he said.

Watching their family dispute, Cecilia regretted coming here immensely. Is Nathaniel right about Eric having feelings for me?
Her heart pounded. She wanted to offer some explanation, but found it hard to speak amidst the chaos.

Cecilia's face burned. I'm not even dating Eric, so how could she say I'm wasting his life?
"Mrs. Palmer, you've misunderstood—Eric and I are just friends and colleagues," she explained.

Cecilia was speechless again.
Ines' argument sounded illogical, but they left Cecilia unable to marshal any rebuttal.
