Cecilia didn't have much choice. She told the doctor to hurry and bring Nathaniel's fever down.
While the doctor worked on cooling him down, Nathaniel kept mumbling in his fever.
"Ceci, this time I'll protect you.
I won't ever let anyone bully you again."
Cecilia heard that and went still for a second.
Something in her chest tightened.
So that was why this guy kept clinging to her every chance he got.
He'd been scared something would happen to her.
"Okay, okay. It's fine. Don't worry. I'm doing great. Nothing's going to happen to me," Cecilia said, trying to soothe him.
Nathaniel seemed to understand.
After that, he stopped rambling.
Standing off to the side, the doctor got a front-row seat to all of it.
After bringing Nathaniel's temperature down, the doctor got to his feet. "Madam, Mr. Rainsworth should be completely fine now."
Only then did Cecilia finally let out a breath.
"That's good. You should head back and get some sleep too. Calling you over this late at night really was a bother."
"It's nothing."
The private physician left with his medical case.
Cecilia reached out and touched Nathaniel's forehead.
Sure enough, it was much better than before.
She was just about to pull her hand back when Nathaniel suddenly caught it.
Cecilia froze for a second.
Nathaniel opened his eyes. "Ceci."
"You're awake?" Cecilia asked, looking at him.
Nathaniel still wasn't fully awake. He held on to Cecilia's hand and gave a small nod.
"What happened to me?"
"You have a fever, and you kept talking in your sleep. You made it so I couldn't sleep either," Cecilia said plainly.
Nathaniel pressed his fingers to his brow. "No wonder. My head feels so dizzy, and I feel awful."
Looking at him like this, Cecilia couldn't stay hard with him.
"Alright. It's still early. Go back to sleep for a while."
She needed to sleep a little more too. She really couldn't hold out any longer.
Nathaniel kept hold of her hand and gave a light tug. The next second, Cecilia toppled straight into his arms.
"Let me hold you properly," Nathaniel said.
Cecilia was too sleepy to bother refusing again.
She simply slipped back under the covers and let Nathaniel hold her.
Second by second, time slipped by.
