"Are you too idle? Go do your homework."

Elliot immediately puffed out his little mouth, let out a snort, and headed for the nursery.

Cecilia shot Nathaniel a glare. "Why are you always so fierce with our son? Can't you talk to him gently for once?"

Nathaniel looked helpless.

"How would my son get hurt by a couple of words from me?"

"He's my son. He can't be soft like some little girl."

Cecilia couldn't be bothered to keep arguing with him.

She turned and went to the bathroom to wash up.

The second she went in, Nathaniel followed right after her.

He stayed planted outside the bathroom door.

He didn't dare leave.

When Cecilia finished and came out, she saw him standing there.

"Why are you standing here?"

"Just walking around. I happened to end up here."

Nathaniel lied with a perfectly straight face.

Seeing him like this now, Cecilia found it especially hard to take.

"Why are you always stuck to me like a strip of glue now? Can't you act normal? You keep watching over me like this every single day. I really can't get used to it."

Nathaniel caught the rejection in her words.

But he couldn't stop himself.

If he wasn't keeping watch over Cecilia, he kept worrying something would happen to her.

"I got it. I won't do it again. Go to sleep. I'll wash up too," he said.

Only then did Cecilia leave.

She went to the bed and lay down. She was drowsy, and before long, she was asleep.

Inside the bathroom, Nathaniel moved fast too.

He barely took any time before coming back out.

A bathrobe was the only thing wrapped around him.

Nathaniel came back to Cecilia's side, pulled up the blanket, and slid into bed. Like it was the most natural thing in the world, he gathered her into his arms.

Cecilia shifted, not settling right. She had just started to pull herself out of his embrace when he drew her even closer.

"Sleeping like this is uncomfortable," Cecilia said.

Nathaniel loosened his hold a little, slow and reluctant.
