After saying that, Miranda walked over and yanked out the power cord.
The screen went black.
Only then did Miranda head upstairs, leaving the father and son sitting there by themselves.
Both of them were cowed by her. For a while, neither of them dared keep playing.
"Felix, go find your mother and calm her down," Adrian said, sending his son to coax Miranda.
Felix knew his mother doted on him most, so he wasn't worried.
He got up and went to Miranda's bedroom.
Miranda had just been about to call the man outside when the door suddenly got pushed open from outside.
She jolted and hurriedly put away her phone.
She'd thought Adrian had come in. She was just about to let loose when she saw Felix standing in the doorway.
"Felix, why did you come up here? Do you need something?" Miranda asked, tightening her grip on the phone.
Felix walked over to her and tried to please her.
"Mom, don't be mad anymore, okay? I know I was wrong. I'll study hard from now on and play fewer games."
He was only saying it to smooth her over. He knew Miranda liked hearing nice things.
Miranda nodded. "Okay. I know. Mom's not mad at you."
When it came to her son, she let him get away with almost anything.
"Then I'm heading back downstairs, Mom."
"Okay, go on." Miranda waved Felix off without any delay.
As soon as Felix left, she pulled out her phone in a rush and called the man on the other end.
The call connected fast.
A man's voice came through from the other side.
"What's wrong? Why are you calling me at this time?"
His voice was gentle.
The second Miranda heard it, the tension in her whole body eased.
"I missed you. Is that not allowed?" she said, dragging out the words at him.
"Of course it is. But if you're calling me during the day, you still need to be careful. Don't let your husband find out," the man said.

Right then, Miranda carried herself with a kind of girlish sweetness she almost never showed.
"Fine. As long as you pull it off, I'll give you a big reward," the man said slowly.
The look in Miranda's eyes brightened on the spot.
"Then it's a deal. You can't lie to me."
"When have I ever lied to you?"
"True enough. Hahaha..."
Miranda let out a string of sharp, delighted laughs.
Just then, the door was pushed open from outside again.
She cut the call at once and looked up, only to see Adrian standing in the doorway.
"What are you laughing about? You're that happy?" Adrian asked.
Miranda slipped her phone into her pocket.
"What else would I be laughing about? I was talking about work. What, were you expecting to count on you for something?"
